Does anyone have any experience with Tourette Syndrome?

I have been trying to tell DH for years that SS9 needs to be tested for neurological disorders, especially Tourette Syndrome. He finally admitted that he sees something, too (after years of "oh, he's just different, Oh, he's a genius denial). He actually asked for my help in getting him to a neurologist and helping to figure out what's going on.

My question is this: does anyone here have any experience with Tourette Syndrome in children? I have seen it years ago when I used to work at my mom's daycare center. What tests will be done to diagnose him and what types of therapy or medication will be prescribed?

Thanx, Snooter. It sounds like your friend had some luck finding that chiropractor. I wonder if most people dealing with this issue even know that's an option. We, of course, won't know for sure what's going on for a little while, yet, but if I were a betting person, my money would definitely be on Tourettes. Thanks again.

Typically these kids are challenged with other sensory processing disorders, they sometimes have behavior regulation issues or what is misinterpreted as ADD/ADHD. I see it mostly in boys coming up on age 8-9, their brain wiring can't keep up with external challenges and internal organization and so they short circuit into TS type reflexes. There is actually a spectrum from mild symptoms to the more severe outbursts and repetitive noises. While a neurologist might make the diagnosis, there is good help to be found in a developmental therapy practice, with good pediatric occupational therapists and psych support. A chiro will storytell about "C-1" being involved, but those manipulations are dangerous and usually just make matters worse.
