I should be under  the 240#s by EOM Oct.  I started at 277#s mid month June.  The last time we did this medically supervised program (2017-2018) I started at 308 and got down to 240.  This time, i am not getting off of the program.  The hidden carbs in low carb prepared foods are killers for me.  So, meat, fish, poultry, leafy green veg, zucc, broch, cauliflower, peppers and radishes will be it.

The goal is 200#s or less by my mid Feb 2023 59th birthday and 185#s and fit by my 60th in '24.

The fit part has not yet started.

The brisket and turkey are smoking and about 6 hours from edible.  I went with Apple wood pellets. Usually Texans do Oak, Pecan, or Mesquite.  The deal I got on AMZ for meat smoking pellets, I though I was ordering wood chips, had Oak, Apple, Peach, Cherry, and Alder.  So... I am expanding my smoke horizons.

Have a great Sunday STalkers.

Awesome Job!!! I have also started working on improving my health and trying to get out of the "obese" category for my height and age. Been seeing a nutritionist and working on the same 25lbs since April. Ive reverted back to the traditional meat, veggies, simple carb/grain. It's such a simple change that really makes a difference for me. Keep up the awesome work!

You eat what you want in reason.  But only 1/2 of what you normally eat.  You don't lose weight fast. Took me like a year to lose 30 Ibs.  But you don't get bored with your food.
After a year the 1/2 portion become the normal

Congratulations on your weight lost.  It's a life long battle.

Agreed on the portion size, Harry. I started weighing my food to discover that my conception of a portion was a heck of a lot more than what was recommended by nutritionists. It took me nearly a year to lose the adipose but, having made a complete change to my eating habits, the weight has stayed off.

Good for you, Rags! Doesn't it feel great to be thinner?

Rags!!!  That is awesome!  Your dedication and tenacity are paying off.  Big confetti drop from me to you!  Keep us posted on your progress.

Now,  can you please come over with that Applewood smoked brisket??  You've given me a mad craving.  It sounds delicious.

ride the horse that got me to the goal..... and keep riding it ad infinitim.

Protein, leafy greens, and low CHO veg.  No rice, corn, potatoes, or wheat/grain products.  For me it also includes legumes.  Pretty much anything beyond leafy greens as far as Veg is concerned  is a no-no for blood glucose management and weight regulation.  But... I found noodles that have no impact on my blood glucose.  Konjac noodles are a miracle.  I am not saying they taste line pasta, the definately don't. But the Konjac noodles and Konjac rice give us a ton more meal options that we have not had for way too long.  Spaghetti, etc.....Palm heart noodles as well.  Both have little discernable impact on my blood sugar which translates to... they don't make me gain weight.

As a 41 year T-1 diabetic who is highly insulin resistant, I really have no other choice.

But, I do feel so much better.

On a somewhat related humorous note, a long time friend of mine married her wife this afternoon. I met them for dinner.  I wore nice shorts, a nice shirt, etc.... As we walked from teh lobby of their hotel to a restaurant... my shorts damned near fell off.  They made it past my butt and I barely caught them before they were around my ankles. TIme for a couple of extra holes in my belt and some smaller shorts, pants, jeans, etc...  Washing everythign in scalding how water and drying it at blast furnice temps in the dryer is no longer shrinking them enough to stay on.

Pardon

Great job, Rags! My DH and I are also working on eating healthier and losing pounds. Its amazing how much better we feel when we reduce the salt and sugar. I lost about 35lb a few years ago and have managed to keep it off, and maintain. That's my goal now. I hope you are still enjoying good, homemade food. That is the best part of life - sharing good food with good friends. The brisket sounds delish!

I lost 20 lbs and DH lost 30 lbs by drastically reducing the white stuff - sugar especially, but also pasta, bread and rice.  Sad because we live those things but we also love being at a healthy weight.  So it's worth it.

And yes, it's a permanent lifestyle change - so sadly those items we love are now occasional treats only.  Our regularly diet is home cooked - fish or chicken, sometimes lean pork as a protein.  Served with two veggies.  It works for us.

Good luck and wishing you continued success.
