Quick Update

DH got SD Friday night as mentioned in my previous post.  I kid you not she shows up with a damn walker and ear plugs (which she forgot at my house).  Then DH tells me that SD can't take tests at school or anything for a month!  WTH!?!? I guess this concussion is way worse than I thought *dash1* I honestly cannot believe that DH really believes that SD has a concussion this severe.  I know I'm not a doctor but her symptoms - stuttering and can't walk - both looked very exaggerated and well fake!

DH's SM came over after SD had gone back to BM's and his SM even said, "Not trying to be mean but you know how she milks out and exaggerates injuires...do you think that could be the case here?"....DH's response, "well she looks okay but when she talks she stutters and when she gets up to walk her knees buckle."  OMG, he must have his head in the sand.

I read some of your comments on my previous blog.  Too bad I didn't read them before SD's visits (she also came back to visit on Sunday).  I totally would have suggested the ER due to my extreme concern that she still has these severe symptoms!  If she is still in this bad of condition on Wednesday I might insist he take her to the ER.

When SD returned on Sunday for a short visit she didn't have the walker anymore but she was walking like a zoombie!?!?  It was a very good production.  She kept asking to let the new pup out of the cage and I told her no.  Wouldn't want the pup jumping on her and making her condition worse ya know.  DH gave her the ear plugs to take back to BM's (apparently BM complained about that, lol).  SD forgot the ear plugs again.

This would be great if DH and BM actually quit catering to these EXTREME injuries and realize it is all acting!  I'm still baffled that DH really believes this.  I think he must be embarassed so acting like it is real is less embarassing?!? IDK.  It is just crazy!

an exit plan?  This lunacy no doubt has repercussions on your DS.

thinkthrice, luckily my ODS stays in his room and just ignores SD.  He is onto her ways and has been for a long time.  He wants nothing to do with her. I don't treat my YDS like every injury is an occasion to baby him and so he doesn't fake injuries.  As a matter of fact YDS fell while running around this weekend with his cousin.  He has a huge bump on his head.  After ice and ibprofen he was good to go again.

The Sunday visit was unexpected or I would have made an excuse to be elsewhere.  SD is really wanting to come over and be waited on hand and foot and play with the new puppy.

Please don't let her near the puppy! God forbid it does a normal puppy action and try to chew on or nip her finger...I foresee SD claiming it's a gash that has become infected, she's on rabies treatments, and might have to have her finger amputated and BM is screaming for the poor harmless puppy to be destroyed!

Simpleton21's picture

LOL, oh you better believe I didn't let her near the puppy.  The puppy is the sweetest ever but likes to jump...can't have her jumping on someone that can barely stand and if she falls again might DIE!!!!  SD asked several times to let her out.  Each time was a no.

I think you might have called her next severe injury coming up though.  Once this one loses its luster.

Simpleton21's picture

Good question.  I would have to research that.  But Winterglow I can't be treating her like a lepper when she has this traumatic injury!  Geesh!  This concussion totally wipes out the fact she has MRSA, duh!!!

soccer my whole life, actually have had 3 concussions from soccer. First time I was head butted in the temple, second time I was taken out from behind and my head smacked back on turf, and the last time was when me and another player went up for the same header and hit heads. Let me tell you, it is not super easy to get a concussion especially if you have never had one before. My first one I totally blacked out on the field, just dropped. I have been hit in the head and hit my head, many many many, other times while playing. I have been playing for 20 years now. After your first one, it is easier for you to get concussions moving forward.

In all the three times I have had concussions, I have never needed a walker or ear plugs or anything like that. Lots of rest, lots of sleep, darker rooms, and less sound for sure, but other than getting dizzy, having a hard time concentrating, and obviously my head hurting, I haven't experienced those symptoms. Plus I know a girl from high school she had I think 6 concussions, she never had any of those things you mention about SD. Sorry, but it is totally an act, her head may hurt, but I don't buy the rest one bit

I love hearing from people that actually have experience with this.  I know it is an act.  I don't know how DH can't see it though!  Funny, her head hurting is the only thing she hasn't mentioned which you would think would be the number 1 symptom.

Also, her getting just a few weeks after we thought my son really had one tells me where she got the inspiration from.  If I say any of this though I'm just the evil step monster! LOL

If her concussion was *THAT* bad, she needs to never play sports again. I'd print out every article I could find about possible problems from severe concussions and how those folks shouldn't play sports anymore, and give them ALL to DH so he sees just how Bad it is and just how much SD needs to not play sports.

I'd also get her a helmet and make her wear it around until the concussion symptoms are all gone. I'd also *insist* on holding her up in public and loudly remind her to shuffle when she walks so she doesn't accidently fall. I'd even make her wear wrist guards so she doesn't break her wrists if she falls. Maybe even buy her some yellow socks and a yellow fall warning bracelet?

Fight overreaction with overreaction. Embarrass the hell out of her and maybe it'll stop in your house.

OMG, genius!  I love it!  I am totally using this.  Especially since BM loves to put her in sport after sport despite all of her severe injuries EVERY SINGLE TIME!  I called this before it happened.  When DH told me indoor soccer I knew she would be hurt in no time.  SD hates running and has "sports induced asthama" also.

The helmet is great, then DH can stop following her around like a  lost puppy since he is so concerned about this! LOL

Darkened room and lots of rest to allow the trauma to her head to heal. No need for a walker because she cannot get up and walk around. No phone or TV because it will slow the healing down. The earplugs ... well to block the sound of, you know, things like the puppy and visitors and getting outside in the sun.

Each time she does this take the recovery to the extreme. No walking for a twisted knee. Rest for concussion in a darkened room. The flu? Lots of warm tea and bed and no phone or TV. And tapioca pudding. Nerve damage to her arm? Rrest in a sling. Coronavirus? Hot tea and rest and the minute she coughs, off to the ER for testing even if it takes all day. BM can meet you there and take over seeing she is the Oracle of Medicine.

I can wear her down in 24 hrs with my restrictive activites.

Simpleton21's picture

I agree with this treatment plan 100%.  BM, per CO keeps SD when she is sick.  BM gets tired of having to have SD all the time though and then we get the "make up time" visits where SD really needs her daddeee.  DH has been buying into this injury. He's already offended that I have shown no concern over it. I also just wanted to watch the show and see this stuttering and inability to walk.  You know assess the situation on the off chance she had a real injury.  On Wed if she comes over I'll suggest we do the recommended treatment for concussions.

Simpleton21's picture

Oh this is great.  I should let DH know that all the foods that she is eating aren't helping her recovery at all.  I've got some great brussel sprouts she can try!

SteppedOut's picture

Holy crap, I do not know how you can deal with this fake crap all the time, yet everyone trying to downplay MRSA.

Freaking lunacy.

Simpleton21's picture

SteppedOut, it really is lunacy!  Not only is it crazy but I can now predict it before it even happens.  I'm going to go with what one of the other posters suggested though and print out the research about how she shouldn't be involved in sports anymore due to this severe concussion.  I'm sure BM will come up with some new plan to monopolize all of SD's time.  Religion maybe?!?!!?

SM12's picture

If she truly has a concussion she would be told by the MD to stop all screen time.  No cell phone, tablets, computers or TV.
If she's still complaining at next visit, take away everything.  Make

her stay in her room with no electronics and no lights.   I bet she improves immediately

Simpleton21's picture

She didn't have her phone but she plopped right down on the couch and watched TV with not problems at all though.

Next visit should be interesting.  I'm hoping one of my son's bike helmets will fit her head Wink LOL Or maybe I should just special order one to show my concern of course.

stepgirlfriendfurmom's picture

So true! My head was killing me whenever I'd look at my phone screen or tv even at a low sim setting! Especially the last concussion I had, had a really rough time with screens.

Simpleton21's picture

Well SD has no problem watching TV at all.  I guess BM also was letting her use her phone and she didn't have problems with that either.  BM only took it away for 3 days b/c SD decided to cut slices in her eyebrows with a razor after BM told her not too.  SD shouldn't have had the phone anyways with the severity of her injury but MOTY is doing a stellar job!
