"The Art Of Marriage"
by Wilferd A. Peterson

A good marriage must be created.
In the art of marriage the little things are the big things...

It is never being too old to hold hands.
It is remembering to say "I love you" at least once each day.

It is never going to sleep angry.
It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives. It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.

It is speaking words of appreciation and
demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways. It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.

It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow. It is finding room for the things of the spirit. It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.

It is not only marrying the right partner...It is being the right partner.

This essay was read to EJ and me on our wedding days. Yes, DAYS! We were married by a judge on New Year's Eve day at 5:30pm in his courtroom, with EJ's coworker and coworker's girlfriend as our witnesses. I requested a copy from the judge in the courtroom. It said SO much truth to how EJ and I felt about each other.

This was a spur of the moment wedding for us, We were heading to lunch on December 31, 2007 and EJ mentioned, "Well we could go to the courthouse and get married during lunch." I thought about it as we were riding along the street and said, "Sure, let's go for it!" EJ's reason to tie the knot was for "tax" purposes. Seriously, that was the ONLY reason! Our church wedding was already planned for June 9, 2008, which is the date right between our two birthdays.

When EJ and I had our church ceremony in June, I asked the pastor to read it outloud at that ceremony as well. He said he had never heard it, and asked to keep the copy we gave him. So it was read on our wedding days!

I wanted to share this with all of you here.

You're welcome, NTFM! I want to get this essay printed on a canvas for him for Christmas. It just says so much about EJ and me. It helps me appreciate him even more than ever! Wink
