The Price of Ignorance
Today was definitely a Wednesday. You know how those days are ... middle of the week, and deservingly called "hump day" because after this day the rest of week skates by. Unless you have a job where you work weekends. Then that just stinks.
Well, it has been an eventful week building up to meeting with DH's lawyer that we were going to fire. Bottom line: she needs to fire her staff.
I went with DH this time because the last time he had a virtual panic attack. I am glad I went although she kind of looked at me like "what is this woman doing here?" but I could just be hyper sensitive.
She told DH that she has only one challenge in his case with him winning full custody - LOL! That's a good thing because I was thinking we were super screwed! - and that is the personal jurisdiction situation.
DH has to prove that our state has jurisdiction over the BM but the lawyer said she couldn't find evidence of this as BM has never stayed here long enough.
So I asked DH about how BM's mother has a super strong southern drawl and where did she get that from and the light bulb went on in his clouded, stressed out mind "She lived here until she was 14."
DH, my poor innocent and legally ignorant love .... "THAT gives our state personal jurisdiction." For the first time, the lawyer smiled and said "that was about $1000 worth of information that I really needed in the beginning," meaning if DH had told her that about three months ago, he wouldn't have had to pay the money for the research and a million other things that lawyers charge you for.
Now we wait.
