OT: Update on my cat
Took my cat to the med vet on Wednesday. Vet is pretty positive it's a Scarcoma malignant tumor that cats get sometimes from getting their vaccines. I guess anytime you do a shot (insertion) on a cat, their cells get out of whack and it can cause the tumor. He didn't test it for cancer, but is pretty positive it is based on experience. He did pull some fluid out of it and looked at that.
He said that tumors/cancer in cats is pretty aggressive. It usually spreads pretty fast.
Removing the tumor would cost between $3000-$3500. Removing it will only prolong his life and not save him as with the size of the tumor it is likley disease has already spread and tumor will probably come back.
Also removing the tumor sounded pretty awful. It's like it's rooted, so they would have to even take part of his muscle tissue. It just sounds awful for recovery and pain management afterwards. I don't want to put him through that.
Vet said he cat is probably uncomfortable but not in pain. If anything where the tumor is located, it may be hard for him to walk if it grows. I need to watch out if he isn't eating or just not himself.
Vet said that the tumor can break through his skin and cause sores and that has already started, though it looks like it has now gone down in size. I am going to call today and follow up on that because I was not expecting that to happen so soon.
So we are just enjoying our time with him and giving him lots of extra attention. I will put him to sleep before he gets too bad as I do not want him to suffer at all.
Thank you everyone for your messages and support.

So sorry. I am a fur baby mommy too and love our wiener princess like family. Knowing when to put them down is one of the hardest things to do.

So sorry to hear this news. It's heart breaking. It's a hard.

I had no idea that that could even happen
I'm trying to not be selfish.
I'm trying to not be selfish. Part of me thinks I should put him to sleep sooner then later, because why should I let him suffer at all when the end result is going to be the same? It's hard decision either way.
I had no idea that shots can
I had no idea that shots can do that! My younger cat has a permanent lump on his hind quarters which isn't getting any larger but still. . .
Zero, I sure do hope your fur baby makes a miraculous recovery. But then again you don't want your beloved pets to suffer, either.

I am so sorry that you are
I am so sorry that you are going through this. I've heard that this can happen, which is why our vet used to do a three-year rabies shot, to lessen how often our kitties were being vaccinated, but now he's gone to yearly because of some other research that I don't remember. I do know that they are supposed to make sure they are injecting in different legs/areas each time. I'm going to make sure to regularly check for lumps/bumps now.
Definitely treasure these last days and spoil your baby like crazy. I think you are doing the right thing by not trying to prolong his life in a way that will be uncomfortable. I know how hard it is though. Virtual hugs to you and your baby.
