OT- What are some things that you splurge on?
I recently (at 33 years of age) got my first pedicure. I have never had a manicure either. I loved it. I love that my nailpolish still looks great 2 weeks later. I am thinking I am going to get another one in a couple of weeks.
Now to me this is a SPLURGE.
I know of a lady at work who had her hands and feet done every 4 weeks. This is part of her budget/bills each month. My best friend gets her hair trimmed every 6 weeks. Both of them see this as maintainece for themselves. Just like shampooing their hair every day.
I buy water bottles- the plastic ones. (I recycle them). They are easy to carry around. I dont have to worry about the cats spilling over a cup. But I know some would consider bottled water a splurge.
So I am curious as to what are some of the things you SPLURGE on.

I want to try a whole food
I want to try a whole food store and get some groceries there but that would be a big splurge for me.
Ooohhh so if you are somewhat
Ooohhh so if you are somewhat close to me and you are close to someone else here.... there should def. be a wine party in the future
I splurge on eating out too. Way too often. I dont like cooking AND cleaning up after. I am just too tired after work.

ACK! How did I miss your birthday?? Must be because my weekend was consumed with SD16 drama.
Happy belated birthday!!!

We have a TON of July birthdays in my family.

Awwww that is my Grandma's birthday! She passed away in May. She is so special to me. What a great day! Just brought tears to my eyes for some reason...
I was off FB on my birthday...but I have it listed there

oh, ok good, so I'm not a huge jerk.
I seriously missed one of my very good friends birthdays in June. I was actually in her presence a week later when I realized and I about cried. She blew it off, said it was no big deal, but geesh I felt just horrible!! But alas that was back when my anxiety level was reaching an all time high and I was starting to get depressed too all because of SD16 of course...so she understood. Still no excuse though.
Oh if you have an Aldi- 24
Oh if you have an Aldi- 24 back of bottled water is $1.99. So I guess that isn't a real splurge considering it's like 8cents a bottle....
LOL
$1.98- you win! LOL

An Aldi's just opened near us
An Aldi's just opened near us a few weeks ago. Went in Saturday to take a look and couldn't believe the prices.
I get a lot of stuff there.
I get a lot of stuff there. There are certain things that I dont like or the price is the same as a regular store. But I have my "go to" list of things that I will get from there. Save a lot of money.
Aye! And since a certain
Aye! And since a certain someone in our home is picky about name brands, we replace certain stuff from Aldi's.
SS has been eating "Fruit Rounds" for years thinking its "Fruit Loops"
I'd do the same with Nutella but it's a such a pain to transfer that sh*t from jar to jar!

"I'd do the same with Nutella but it's a such a pain to transfer that sh*t from jar to jar! "
1. Go to big lots or aldis and purchase knock off Nutella
2. Save empty nutella container
3. Nuke knock off nutella for a few seconds until it gets warm and oozy
4. Transfer contents into original Nutella jar
5. Place in frig for 30 min
If someone asks why the nutella is in the frig, say it was a summer serving suggestion
Hmmmm...I shall remember
Hmmmm...I shall remember this. Does Nutella return to it's prior consistency?
yes. not grainy or anything.
yes. not grainy or anything. just nuke for a few seconds probably like 10 seconds then 5 seconds at at time to reach desired consistency. The frig helps it along.
I was the substitution queen as a single mother; it was a financial necessity back then. Chef would literally GROWL at me for even THINKING of not getting name brand junk food for his kids. "My angels deserve the BEST!" Yes he actually said this to me. It always angered me that MY bios when coming up had to sacrifice and not get brand names, yet HIS entitled spawn should only get the top of the line.
He pitched a fit when I bought day old hot dog buns for the lovely "angels" I told him he could nuke them for a few seconds and they would be back to normal (disgustingly spongey). He would have none of it and demanded that I turn around, head back out to the store and buy his "angels" newly stocked strohmann's hot dog buns--no store brands. Oh and that there be NO grill marks on his precious' hot dogs either. (eyeroll)
From that moment forward it was ON! I substituted EVERYTHING that I possibly could. I have a burning pit so the generic boxes got tossed into the fire pit leaving zero evidence.
The very last Easter for massively spoiled YSS was dollar store chocolates (mostly flavoured paraffin wax I believe) and chinzy easter baskets. All bought at the VOA.
BWA HA HA!!
Wow! I bow to the queen!

I go there all the time. The bottled water is a good buy! And you can get some gourmet items there too like goat cheese, etc.
Yes the gourmet items!
Yes the gourmet items!
Definitely my hair... my SIL
Definitely my hair... my SIL is a fabulous, well sought after hairdresser in our area. So I have my hair colored/highlighted every 6 weeks. (which I guess is kind of NOT a splurge since SIL gives me a huge discount... but prior to meeting SIL I was doing {{gasp}}color from a box!)I also splurge on hair care products. My hair is naturally curly and I freaking hate it, so I straighten it and find that the higher end products really DO work better. Bed Head/TIGI are my favorite.
I never got my first pedicure until I was like 38 or 39! Nutso right? I'm not faithful about getting them, but I definitely love to get one, especially first thing when the weather gets to be sandal season, to me it's heaven after 6 months of living is wool socks and boots. lol
I straightend my hair every
I straightend my hair every day until I was about 30??? So just within the past 3 years I have worn my hair curly... I LOVE it. I dont miss the days of straigtening it anymore. BUT it took me probably a year to figure out what product and cut worked best with my curls. I have it figured out now...
I agree though- a good hair product makes a difference.
Definitely manicures! I do
Definitely manicures! I do my own pedicures. Oh and high-end linens/sheets, cookware/kitchen gadgets.
My hair is wicked straight and grey so I use naturtint and also a crea clip for haircuts.
I wax my underarms, privates
I wax my underarms, privates & eyebrows. I get pedicures during the summer months. Once a year, I go to the SPA for a full facial, massage and mud wrap.
I had this whole long
I had this whole long question about waxing your privates written out and I just deleted it like that is WAY too personal to ask on an open forum. LOL.
My budget busting indulgence
My budget busting indulgence is food. I will end up in the gourmet grocery store about once a week or so to buy 'just one thing' (a lie I always tell myself) and walk out the door with steaks, salmon, crab, fancy produce, desserts, etc...
And I get my eyebrows waxed once a month. They grow in so uneven I can't make them look normal for anything, but the lady I go to is fantastic.
Eta, we have a membership to Massage Envy, we go once a month. I love it.
Not at all! I splurge on
Not at all! I splurge on Coach purses, but I get them on Ebay or buy my SILs ones that she doesn't want anymore.
My horse. Have owned him for
My horse. Have owned him for 21!! years. Love him, he is a family member. But owning a horse is EXPENSIVE, especially if you have to board (which I do) and he is old and has to have a whole bunch of extra food besides munching on grass/hay. Plus extra medical care as he ages, plus gas to drive out and see him 3-4 times a week, plus ...
Get out! I didn't know you
Get out! I didn't know you had a horse! I got my favorite guy when he was a yearling and he is now 13. I've bought and sold a bunch of other horses, but he will never go anywhere
Yep! My kids call him my
Yep! My kids call him my first child.
We have an amazing bond, even the lady who boards him says that, he will do ANYTHING for me and he LOVES my kids, who love him right back. Just a great guy, and he has a family for life.
This sounds amazing.
This sounds amazing.
Pedis and facials, once a
Pedis and facials, once a month on both unless we have something big coming up to budget for. I also will splurge once a year on an expensive handbag.
Manicures - gel and pedis are
Manicures - gel and pedis are a must for me every three weeks. Splurge for me is a microderm facial every 6 months. Also, every time I retain a new client, I buy myself a new coach bag. But, since the brand is so diluted now, it doesn't feel as much of a decadence. Also, a new golf club or golf outfit...
My everyday splurge is bubble
My everyday splurge is bubble baths and perfume. I love the nice smelly things and the more luxurious the better.
In all honesty, travel is my secret splurge. Saving up to go somewhere exotic and different is my real splurge. Self-indulgent but soooo worth it!
I splurge on board games and
I splurge on board games and RPG books. My last buy was the "7 Wonders" card game by Asmodeus. It actually won, "Best Game of 2013".
I splurge on horses. Riding
I splurge on horses. Riding lessons, riding clothes, $300 boots, custom saddles. DH recently did something pretty ignorant to me, so I commissioned a custom saddle for my new horse.
I know I sound like a snob. I'm not. And we are not "rich" by any means. Just blessed to have a farm life. The farm is my business and how I earn my income, but out of that I am able to keep a few horses for myself without much additional cost. But the extras? Yeah, that's how I make him PAY.
Yeah! Another fellow horse
Yeah! Another fellow horse gal! I had no idea!
Yippie!!!!! I think there
Yippie!!!!! I think there are quite a few of us on here!
I've always wanted a goat!
I've always wanted a goat!
Too bad you are all so far
Too bad you are all so far away from me! DH laughs because people at work tell him he smells like a horse (he goes by to take care of my baby some mornings when I can't).

Toilet paper. Yes, that is my splurge. I have UC so I end up using quite a bit of it. I am in enough pain at times without having a chapped bottom too!

I've been spluging on
I've been spluging on department store makeup because my 18 y/o DD is an enabler.

Oh this was a new splurge for me.
I bought a toner and powder (Bare Minerals) and Urban Decay Naked3 eyeshadow. I think I spent almost $150 total for those 3 items. I had a $50 gc though
I dont get many splurges
I dont get many splurges right now
DH is a full time student and not working plus with my 2 kiddos and stepson we have become very frugal!! But every couple of months we will go out for dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant where we eat tons of chips, split a fajita plate and each have a tall bud light all for 28.00! Thats our splurge for now.
It's only a splurge if you
It's only a splurge if you get the really expensive stuff, otherwise it's a necessity.
Fake diy nails and movies
Fake diy nails and movies from the pawn shop. Trying to increase my collection within reason. Lls
I have to have my dance
I have to have my dance lessons and hair color, non-negotiable. Then I have a pretty bad problem with earrings, and jewelry.
After my dad died, I went heavily into retail therapy. I have a lifetime supply of new clothes, shoes, jewelry, dance clothes, etc. It is really embarrassing how much I spent and hard to manage there is so much in my small place. So many things I have never even worn or used many items yet.
I am trying to be in recovery now, but did just have an 'outburst' over upcoming 2 yr. anniversary of losing my dad. It is a problem and I have got to stop buying!!
beer and ciggs. and even then
beer and ciggs.
and even then it's cheap shit...
after spending all our $ on skids and bills, there's really no $ left to splurge, but i do get my nails done. but i'll stretch it to every three weeks.
and every once in a blue moon (like every 4 or 6 months) we'll splurge on surf and turf, but only if it's on sale (dh and i will do steaks, skids will do crablegs and lobster tail, but only if it's on 'manager's special' and just going out of date.)
*sigh* i used to be able to afford anything i wanted before skids.
