OT-Tell me its the economy....
I an not the crying type and I have been fighting back tears all day.
This past year I have worked hard. I have gone through two managers in one dept and changed depts as well, another new manager. I feel so overlooked and slighted right now.
I'm wondering if I should even bother going beyond the minimum anymore?
This is the first time in my working life that I have not gotten a raise.

my place has no raises this year for anyone. it is the economy...not you!
Jenjen - not only did I not
Jenjen - not only did I not get a raise or my annual merit bonus last year, I got relegated to part-time. My dh is an owner in a firm. No raises for anyone, except promotions. Most of his clients saw no raises this year either. It is not you. I am sure you are fine and well respected.

I know that I shouldn't
I know that I shouldn't complain. I know that there are so many people, including people I worked with in the begining of they year that now dont even have a job.
It's just really hard to take in. They did give out "some" merit raises and I was not a receipiant.
I guess this is one of those moments in life where I really need to ask "why me?" in a positive way. Why do I still have a job? I am blessed and should count my lucky stars for that.
It's okay to complain, just
It's okay to complain, just don't beat yourself up.

Sorry, no raises except for the CEOs...that's just the way it is...oh yeah, and the other "officers" in companies...that's just the way it is...next year it might not be the economy...they'll think of something else...but IT"S NOT YOU...

Jenjen, I got my pay CUT by 3% this year. And I am widely regarded as a superstar at my work. It's not you. It IS the economy.

Be thankful that you have a job.
It's the economy. Don't stop being super worker because of this. Be who you are and the raises will come!

It's definately not just you
It's definately not just you hun!
I work for a Phone and Internet provider, and haven't even been with the company for 1 year (April is 1 year mark). In this year I've had 3 different supervisors, and moved to 3 different departments. They also didn't give out raises this year. I feel your pain!!

Jen, My company has not
Jen,
My company has not approved raises since Q1 2008. This year the company approved them but my client did not approve the pass through so neither I nor my staff will get a raise this year. Though I have not had a raise in two years and in fact lost a ton of money due to loss of Per Diem and a forced relo I am not bitter about no raise for 2 years. And I have the highest growth rate and profit level of any senior manager in the division.
I ascribe to the Mormon Lake Lodge phylosophy as far as the lack of raises in the current economy. Mormon Lake Lodge is a great steakhouse, bar and dance hall near Flagstaff AZ. Over the fireplace is a hand painted sign that says "Don't burn your paddles boys, the lake will rise again". Mormon lake goes dry periodically and can stay dry for years as little more than a marshy bog. However, when the snow pack is right and the spring rains and snow melt run off is good it can fill up in a hurry and is one of the best pike fishing lakes in the Mountain West region.
Hang in there, raises will come back eventually.
Cost savings is king right now so many industries will stay flat on salaries and wages for the forseeable future.
It really is not you, it really is the economy. Keeping your job is the new manifestation of good work performance in the current economic paradigm. I keep getting top performance assesments and no raise.
But for now just keeping my job is a good thing.
Best regards,
