You are here

the stupidity of teens, and the unknown child support system..."I'm going to be a dad, ACCOMPLISHED!"

herewegoagain's picture

So DH's daughter's boyfriend writes on myspace..."going to be a dad"...mood: ACCOMPLISHED

How stupid can a teen get? Let's see how accomplished you feel when you are just out of school, if you even finish, and end up in jail because your baby mama takes you to court to buy herself more nice stuff in the form of child support...sigh

This was done on purpose, both idiots wanted a baby...I do NOT feel that DH should help out in any way...It is one thing for someone to "oops" into a pregnancy, it is another to plan it, to want it and then to expect others to help them out because you know, we are just teens...sigh...

Can't wait for CS to catch up to him...

I just heard the teen pregnancy statistics on the radio actually, this is what it said............

750,000 teenagers between the ages of 15-19 get pregnant each year.

Rarely do these teen parents finish high school or go to college, so naturally they will earn less money, even if they receive their GED.

Daughters of teen mothers are more likely to become a teen parent.

Teen pregnancies are a result of the lack of sex education that teens receive from their parents and schools.

Most parents think that t.v. shows like "16 and pregnant" glorifies teen pregnancy...while Dr.(cant remember her name) says they are likely to watch it anyways, so instead, use this as an opportunity to speak with your teen about the risks of teen sex and pregnancy.

I would just like to say, that my mother was a teen parent, having me at 17, and after seeing the stuggle that she went through, I've never wanted to be teen parent. Its way to hard.

Welcome to democratic America! That's makes me wanna puke!

I don't agree with the lack of sex ed thing...I FULLY educated SD20, started that when she was 10, so that wasn't the case in our house....

Kb3Hooah's picture

I dont think it can be generalized - I'm sure there are plenty of teens that get enough sex ed who still have sex and end up pregnant.

I on the other hand fall into this category I believe. My parents were very conservative, we never discussed anything, much less sex. That was **gasp** off limits to talk about. They never really said that, but I think it made them VERY uncomfortable to talk about sex with their teen daughter (me).

I had sex while I was a teenager. Not proud of it and hindsight 'is' 20/20. I ended up pregnant at 17. So to see that Daughters of teen mom's are more likely to get pregnant is pretty unsettling.

One thing I have learned though, is that I **WILL** be talking to my kids about sex. I will let them know about all of the dieses, show them pictures of what the dieses look like if there are physical symptoms. I will talk to them about getting pregnant and what that means for their future. After I'm done with them, they'll be too scared to have sex, lol.

I know that DH's daughter's pregnancy is not lack of education, it's lack of parental responsiblity and good judgement...and of course, wanting to be a friend to her daughter so that DH can look like the bad guy...DH had talks with her about his approval of it or lack of, but she went running to mommy who let her have boyfriends since she was 11 or so, stay over at their house since about 14, go out at all times of the day/night, etc...so, this is lack of PARENTING...sigh...

Funny thing is her BM was not a teen mom, she didn't have her until she was 21 or so...but she was messing around with every guy in town since she was 13 or so from what I hear...hmmm...BM's mom is also known around town for being a hoochie...it just runs in the family...

herewegoagain's picture

PS - at least for anyone who has a boy, you should teach them about Child Support...that should be enough to get them to stop...heck, I say if your teen boy is having sex, you should begin to charge him a surcharge for living in your house...hehe...when they complain, tell them you are just getting them used to paying child support...believe me they'll get it then...hehe

Denial's picture

I love it - that's a great idea!. My DH can tell our son what CS has done to him and his finances along with the sex talk!!

WTF is wrong with our society . . . teens thinking it's cool to have babies! No wonder so many grandparents are raising their grandchildren. How F----ed is that!

I've already told DH with SS16's behaviors that if he gets someone pregnant, we will not raise the baby!

herewegoagain's picture

By the way, I have a feeling our child support obligation probably went down to 4 1/2 years to go to 2 1/2 years to go, since she'll probably stop going to school at 18 once she is no longer required to attend...heck, she barely attends now and hasn't for a few years...so well...

Sia's picture

I swear I dont get that! In most states, once they have a child, they are emancipated...meaning no more obligation for the cs....

herewegoagain's picture

Well, I think if she moved in with her boyfriend, at her boyfriend's parents house, we could try to get her emancipated...problem is, how do we prove that? She has been talking about "living" and "sleeping" with her boyfriend for a few months, but it seems HE is living with her vs. the other way around...not sure what will eventually happen or if in actuality it is the other way around...but we live out of the country, how could we possibly truly find out? BM is not going to tell us obviously, she'd risk losing her child support...

herewegoagain's picture

No. not emancipated...sigh...

But I'm thinking this poor baby won't have health insurance as her mother cannot include him in her insurance unless she adopts him (correct me if I'm wrong here, but that's what I've read...)...So, in order for him/her to have insurance, crazy's daughter will have to apply for welfare...because you can only get medicaid/chips in Texas if you are on welfare I believe...Well, she won't get that either because she lives with BM, which means they will count BMs salary in the application, which will disqualify her for welfare...so she can go live with boyfriend to get welfare/medicaid and not have her mom's income counted, but unless she is married, she will be required to attend school as a teenage preggo girl, pero the welfare rules...we know she barely attends now...can't imagine how she'll do it after the baby is born...so the only other way will be to get married and apply for welfare with the kiddo's father as married...and then maybe they'll qualify which will get rid of the cs order...

I mean, I highly doubt BM will pay out of pocket for her grandbaby's insurance and all other costs, being that she harasses DH so much because she couldn't afford his daughter and always wanted more money...and I doubt her husband will take responsibility for supporting another kid, when he already has 2 he pays cs to, plus two with her...and yes, BM receives CS for her daughter from DH and ONCE AGAIN lives with in-laws in a tiny wooden shack, so she pays no mortgage...

Oh yeah, she could instead not get married and ask for welfare, she'll be required to give her beau's name, which will tick him off if they are together and she puts him through child support, since he is in highschool and will be taken to court, you know?

Hmmm...

Most Evil's picture

I am positive if she gets married she will be automatically emancipated - but you will still have to get judge approval however she is emancipated, as I understand it.

Since they are playing house, they might as well go all the way, huh. Such a shame.

I cannot imagine WANTING to be in that situation, I spent all my time avoiding it! Hang in there girl

I'm no medicaid expert, but I am almost certain that she could receive medical care through medicaid, even if she doesn't qualify for welfare. Even if they count her mom's income, an uninsured pregnant woman is almost guaranteed to get medicaid.

Hey, maybe she can get disability for being so stupid as to purposely get pregnant at 15?! Smile

Denial's picture

"maybe she can get disability for being so stupid"

If only these kids could get disability for stupidity - they'd be set for life. My SS16 would never have to put down the pot, his beer, or his xbox controls to get a job - he could just wait for a check!

herewegoagain's picture

Thanks Most Evil...she only needs to get one parent's signature to get married after 16, which I assume she would wait until then to keep dad out of knowing she is going to court...again, if they last that long...hmmm...If not, I have a feeling that the worse than can happen is she dumps the guy, takes him to child support, is forced to finish school by welfare if she applies for it, etc...hmmm...whatever...what a nightmare...crazy, crazy kids and parents out there...

Most Evil's picture

Oh man - does your DH not know yet? I am just thinking too, that I don't know of many teenage boys that really are ready to be husbands yet. This just has disaster written all over it!

Ok, never mind, I just read that he does know - I am so sorry honey!! That is probably the worst news you can get as a parent, at her age!
