The delete option.

Ok, I get the picture now. I will no longer try to help or give opinions on blogs that comments keep getting deleted. It is very frustrating to see good advice and then go back and it is gone because the post did not COMPLETELY agree with the original poster.

A LOT of good advice is getting missed out on because of this. This blog had some great advice, but so many comments were deleted, that it does not even make sense anymore.

I don’t like the delete button! lol

I have the same issue Willow, but I figure if the OP feels insecure about letting others read the responses that their blogs draw, it's in their right to delete it.

i like the delete button for keeping conflict to a minimum but it is really sad to see people crafting responses to suit their views by deleting the ones they don't see eye to eye with. really big changes can come from listening to people with different opinions.i thought that's why we're here? i didn't know we were here to mold the response pool into one big "i agree!" pile while leaving the rest in the garbage

I saw it too Willow, they obviously don't want change or to get opinions different than their own. One of the main reasons I don't bother giving too much input on blogs anymore...never know if you are wasting your time.

The delete option is great in some circumstances...but sometimes..well just say it's getting worn out!..lol..

I agree with the previous responses. I have had some responses to some of my posts that I felt were almost blatant attacks on my character as person and a mother versus just "opposing opinions on the topic in my post", but even then the thought never ocurred to me to delete those responses. Beyond opposing opinions, I also think that there is sometimes even some benefit in others seeing the plain out critical, negative and/or judgmental responses you may get too so that they can see that it is not personal when they get a similar type response to a similar type post from the same person.

True willow and DD: "one big "i agree!" pile"

That's exactly what it's becoming. I would never delete a comment just because I didn't agree with the opinion.

If you post on the forum discussion boards, there is no delete button.

Our blogs are supposed to be "our blogs" and therefore gives us the right to censor. Smile

Please also keep in mind that if something offensive or attacking is in a comment, it might be a moderator that has stepped in. Also, the comments are not deleted they are "unpublished" and stored in the database.

So, don't get all upset at the blog owner. They may not have been the one that "deleted" the comment.

Thanks,
Dawn

I will say that I used it for the first time this morning. I didn't, however, pick & choose certain comments to delete. I took all of them out, along with my initial post & in it's place left an explanation for why. I left the explanation to make it clear that I wasn't trying to manipulate or distort things to boost my thoughts. I think it's pointless for someone to post on a public forum if they're not going to be open to a variety of opinions. I think it's stupid for an OP to use the delete option for the sake of keeping their blog one-sided or so that nobody is able to see the points that other posters are trying to make. I hesitated to use it this morning. I don't believe in picking & choosing just to leave the comments that supported me so I just took it all down.

Hmmm. I did not know this at all and am actually a little shocked that this site has become this heavily moderated and censured.

I try to never delete what someone posts on my blog, unless it's mine. Sometimes I have to due to what I have going on now though. I had to delete someone suggesting a site to help me b/c I'm ON IT and couldn't have it listed here where it could be read by STBX.

Stuff like that. I sent the person who suggested it a PM though and explained why I had to remove her helpful comment. But I never delete a comment for me just b/c I don't agree with it. I try to remember that it's not personal at all, and that I may not understand the perspective of the person giving the advice. And if someone is obviously trying to bait me? I just ignore them and they get bored and go away nine times outta ten.
