Poll- clothing in your home?

Last-Wife's picture

I am offended when my teenage skids don't wear shirts in the house. Sometimes, late at night, after their showers, they even simply run around in their boxers...

I am wrong to be bothered by this? It's not a sexual thing. Ew. I raised them since they were 2 and 3. I am the "mom." That's just sick...

but I do see it as a modesty/respect issue. I mean, we don't allow SD to run around in her bra and panties. And Gibby, my bio-son, wears shirts and shorts in the house.

And it really bugs me when they cook or open the fridge without a shirt on. It grosses me out. And Loghead doesn't think it's any big deal. I have talked to him repeatedly and to the boys about how I feel about this. (and yes, I know that's a whole other issue between me and loghead, and the amount of respect there, but I can only fight so many battles at once.) And lately, half naked teenagers in my kitchen are pissing me off and grossing me out!

What's your clothing rule?

tshirt and boxers or shorts at all times - when SS is visiting - he is 17 and pretty modest anyway but tell them you don't want their freaking hair all over the kitchen. Gross!!

My DH says if he had it HIS way we would have NO kids in the home and he and I would be naked all the time. Wink

Girls have nothing less than tee shirt and boxer length shorts. Boys have a tee shirt (it can be an underwear shirt) and pajama pants. They wear these little boxer briefs and if they just sported those around the house it would be like their jingles would be resting on the furniture. THEIR JINGLES!!!!! There's not a furniture cleaner known to man that removes jingle dust from the sofa. :jawdrop:

Now boys this isn't hee haw. Let's put pants on, shall we.

And like another poster said. It's not sexual. My son is an asexual being to me. It's for hygienic reasons. I don't want the crack of his little heiny touching the dining room furniture.

I had the same issue as furie - SO tended to come out on weekend mornings in sweats and no t-shirt. SS started to imitate this. I stopped it - and told SO to put on a shirt too. I think it's a courtesy issue. I was custodial of SS for 6 years, and from the time he was around 11 or so I didn't come down without not only modest pajamas, but also at least a pullover bra underneath. It's a respect thing.

And Butterfly - now that SS doesn't live here, yeah I walk around freely when I'm getting ready in the morning, and leave the bathroom door open. And I love it!

SO just came out to get a cough drop in nothing but slippers. LOL

This is an issue at our house with 2 teenage boys. I dont know what is going on? It drives me crazy.
I will not serve dinner unless everyone has shirts and shorts on. I dont stop nagging until I see them at least half dressed. Dont even think about going in my kitchen with your hairy armpits over my stove. Ough. I even get upset when I see them lying on my couch with nothing on. The couch is not like sheets you cant wash it. Yikes

Did you ever see that show The Middle, the teenage boy walks around half naked all the time. I dont get it. My DH doesnt do it..

That's what we do, but my skids are kind of dense. The girls get out of the shower wearing tank tops and shorts and start shivering, "It's cold in here." "Um, no dear. It's called winter, put some frikkin' clothes on."

SS7 likes to wear just pj bottoms or shorts to sleep in - we are in heehaw land so it's pretty normal for a guy in his home or yard to go shirtless in the summer. But we aren't raising any total heathens. DH has had a strict "no shirt, no service" policy at the dinner table since day 1.

OMG I thought it was only in my house I had to have the "put some freakin' clothes on!!" argument every day. SS10 comes home from school and kicks off everything but his tighty whities at the door. I will have to use the argument to FDH that it would be just like SD8 walking around in her panties in front of BM's boyfriend...that's a great suggestion. I have even gone as far as buying the kid pajama pants thinking that jeans were just not his thing, but that's not it either. My bios don't do this, and it's not unusual to find them all playing video games together, all fully dressed except for SS10. So weird.
