SS2: withdrawals?
Its 3 am and SS2 just woke up for the 6th time. He was rolling around in his crib crying for medicine. Literally. He told me he needed medicine four times. He cries at night all the time and days random body parts hurt. Knees. Feet. Ankles. Ears. It can be anything. After tonight I am beginning to thonk he is experiencing phantom pains from withdrawals from whatever medicine she is giving him.

We have been planning on it
We have been planning on it for a couple months, but somehow it never works out. We had SS2 do a urine test a few months ago, but even the nurse said that nothing would turn up unless he had been "medicated" within a couple hours. We want to get a blood test done, but we have both been so busy that nothing has worked out. At this point, I think it is imperative though. I genuinely think this kid is going through withdrawals.
I'd talke to a doctor about
I'd talke to a doctor about this and see if I could get some placebo medicine, just to see if it's a play on his part. Believe me, kids INCHES long, not knee high, can manipulate parents! I'd cater to it for now, with a placebo for one night and see if it makes a difference. If it is withdrawal then the medicine dose can be gradually reduced under medical supervision, some pain medication can have side effects.
Exactly. This is what used
Exactly. This is what used to be known as "feeling sorry for oneself." I like the placebo idea of TUMS as well! Go for it!!
I agree. He does seem to be
I agree. He does seem to be obsessed with medicine. He has chronic constipation for whatever reason, and I started giving him fiber supplements in gummy form. DH made the mistake of telling him the gummies would help his stomach. Now, he cries about his stomach hurting in order to get gummies. So, I definitely buy the manipulation issue. I'm just confused about how he could wake up 6 times in one night with phantom pains, especially because we never give him medication at night unless he has a fever.
Tums are great for a placebo.
Tums are great for a placebo. Plus, they are just nasty enough that unless the child really needs something, they won't ask too often.
That is a good idea. I think
That is a good idea. I think he won't even eat them, actually. It would definitely put him off the idea of asking for medicine.
OMG BM has created a monster!
OMG BM has created a monster! My BS2 only gets Tylenol if he has a fever.. period.dot.dash.
What "medicine" has BM been giving him? Something other than Tylenol? Does he have some diagnosed medical condition or is she just playing Dr.? That is REALLY scary!! Just read the back of the Tylenol bottle and it will tell you that repeated usage over even a short period of time can cause liver damage. Maybe you're talking some other med... but at any rate it can't be good!
I'll betcha it was PEZ!!!!
I'll betcha it was PEZ!!!! LUV when BMs create little hypochondriacs!!
We have asked BM about what
We have asked BM about what medication she is giving them and she always denies it. She says she hasn't given them anything at all, but then we talk to SS5 and get a different story.
We still haven't figured out what it is though. At best, she's giving them fever breaker every night to get them to sleep. At worst, she's giving them her own antidepressant medication in order to zone them out. Somehow, she's managed to get a dose that is three times the normal dose of xanax. She is so spaced out by it that she regularly screws up the information forms at SS5's school and at the doctors office and DH has to go fix them.
SS2 does not have any diagnosis at all. He is under weight and was borderline "failure to thrive" for a long time. But that's it. He also had allergies and BM put him on allegra or something--which didn't do anything to help. Then we cut him off milk at our hourse (we have him 70% of the time) and he has been fine ever since.
