NEWSFLASH!! Healthy Eating May Help ADHD Kids!! WHO KNEW??!!

Auteur's picture

As I've been saying right along, I find it strange, this current outcropping of children with ADHD who also have such issues as:

1. constant video game/electronic device playing
2. junk food/"kid-friendly" meals as a standard diet
3. ZERO fresh air and exercise
4. Snacks loaded with chemicals/artificial dyes, flavours
5. Improper bedtime habits (no set bedtime)

They've actually done a STUDY on it!!

I'll never forget that show about this kid having autism and ADHD with boatloads of tantrums sprinkled in. He was eating a diet mainily consisting of brightly coloured "kid" yogurt and goldfish crackers.

DUH!!

aaaahhhh yesss....Who would have thought that behaviour issues and getting fat was connected to serving kids the wrong food...

I remember my kids telling me about a kid at school who had adhd - he was overweight, never did any sport, threw chairs around the classroom, which disrupted the entire class room...and when he sat down for his lunch...MUM...packed him a mars bar, nutella sandwhiches and a coke to wash it all down with

This darling little shit, never had any friends....as he was either doped up on ritalin or throwing psycho fits, and enjoyed a breakfast of coco pops, or fruit loops...

Dinner was usually Macdonalds or Burger King....

Mum said she couldnt get the poor little 7 YO child to eat anything else....ever since the father left the scene he has been like this...

I remember thinking....NO WONDER DAD LEFT...& i have serious concerns regarding this kid when he hits the wonderful teenage years

@liks, my DD had a school-mate with the same problems… he was being raised by grandparents, who were older and did whatever they thought would placate the boy… including letting him eat a hot dog and a chocolate bar with a soda for breakfast! And he’d stare at my DD While she was having a piece of fruit or an egg sandwich
(before & after school care together, I got to see and hear lots about this poor kid)

What is amazing to me is not that this is happening, but that they actually NEED a study to confirm it!!

I’m not a ‘food nazi’ either, we have treats now and then, but we don’t LIVE off of junk!

Wot Pisses me off about all of this....

is that these kids get so much more attention paid to them because of a) lack of parenting, and b) kids being a bloody nuiscences

Resources are limited these days so why do we spend so much money on looking after the bad and the evil....money could be better spent on educating mothers on basic things like diets for kids....compulsary parenting classes....rather than spending money on jails and extra resources in the schools to deal with the unruley behaviour of school kids.

I heard of a newborn baby being fed a chocolate milk once bc the mother didnt want to breastfeed and the baby was crying.....???? Baby was one day old and whilst the young mother was in hospital, and the nurse was in the other room, she put the chocolate milk into a baby bottle and stuck this in the poor babies mouth....now what hope does this kid have?

Sounds like my SS20.

Video game addict? Check.
Substantially overweight? Check.
No friends/social skills? Check.
Crap diet? Check.
Kept on Adderal until his 20's? Check?

I am seeing a pattern here.

Not exactly brain surgery to realise there is a link to food and parenting ffs!

They believed that to be true when these types of disorders began to be understood. I should know, as I was an 80's child and diagnosed with hyperactivity, with most of my symptoms fitting ADHD (that wasnt known then).

I wasnt medicated nor did I manage to skip punishment, even if I misbehaved due to my disorder. I was also given a list of things to eat and not to eat, and I was training in swimming. At a very young age I would be equal responsible for what I ate, so if I popped round someones house I would have to tell them...

I have zero sympathy for parents who bemoan the lack of control over their children who suffer with this condition, and yet refuse to put them on an appropriate diet with suitable recreational activites (helping with being over energetic). It can be managed if you are sensible. Its hard for everyone but it can help enourmously. I finally began to sleep through the nights without getting up at age 7, when my parents became aware of how to address my condition!

Right on....

DW and I recently starting reading a book and corresponding daily blog. "Primal Blueprint" by Mark Sisson. I think you'd find this right in line with your post here. It addresses each point you just talked about from too much electronic stimulation, to eating shit, to how all this makes someone feel/act. Check it out.
