Hangover hypocrisy

lawyergirl06's picture

So I tied one on last night. SO went to the house and got the rest of his belongings before Warthog goes in this weekend and picks the place clean. My apartment looks like a warzone as we are running out of places to put things. I am not the most orderly person but truth be told, this is too much. There is shit everywhere. I spent three hours rearranging things last night and there still isn't a place for everything. I could feel my blood pressure rising the whole time I was doing it. SO, for the most part, is deeply apologetic and spends most of his time trying to keep things under control and calm so that I don't lose my shit entirely.

After all that cleaning and getting the skids taken care of (it was a late night considering they were supposed to have a visit with mom who of course didn't show) I decided that a bottle of wine and I had a date. I sat down to have one glass while I caught up on Season 1 of American Horror Story, and before I knew it a whole bottle was gone and I was opening another. I haven't drank like that in years and there is a good reason for it. I'm old and can't handle my liquor anymore.

I feel like hell today and as I sit here at my desk, I am praying for death. My head is pounding and my contacts are glued to my eyes. I honestly think that I could throw up at any second and every one of my co-workers know that I have wine bottle flu. I'm usually a grammar Nazi, but today I couldn't honestly give a fuck.

But I find myself wondering how the hell does Warthog do this daily? How did she do this every day and still try to raise her kids? How did she do this and hold down a job. For fuck's sake, every time my phone rings I have a blast of pain behind my eyes and this chick drives around totally blotto every minute of the day. Where the hell did I put my aspirin?

She can do it every day because she has an alcohol tolerance and you don't.

If you feel THAT bad (room spinning, nausea, splitting headache) and you've already tried everything else, a little hair of the dog can help when nothing else will. Not a lot, mind you, but a drink or half a drink.

It's called tolerance, honey. My dad can put away an entire CASE of beer and a fifth of Canadian whiskey, go to bed at 1AM, get up at 8AM and be totally fine. He's done it for years. Terrible, I know, but yeah, that's dad.

Anyhow, I hope you feel better. Maybe some Starbucks will help?

No, 12. But I have seen him take down 18 and a pint of Canadian whiskey (his favorite for some odd reason, plus it's cheap).

He isn't a big man either. 5'8" (my 14 yr old daughter is the same height!) and about 150 if that. I think he's lost a few pounds since I was in Detroit visiting last christmas.

It's sad, because he's also very young. I'm 40 and he's only 57. Mom isn't much better. She drinks at least a 6pk most nights PLUS she's on vicodin indefinitely for her herniated discs in her back (she's had multiple surgeries). She's 56.

I tried that too a few years ago and was sick for 3 days.

Rehydrate and (friends told me) a greasy cheeseburger which I could only eat a couple bites at a time and barely keep down.

I feel for you.

Oh I always crave a big greasy cheeseburger when I'm hungover. Of course, like you, I can only get down a few bites, but wow it's good. And Coke - the drink not the drug...always helps.

I forgot about Vernor's (Michigan's famous ginger ale) - I just located a store here in Denver that sells it so I picked up a 2liter to keep in the fridge just in case BM decides to drop SD14 off this Sunday per the court order. She's been gone since June, so this will be definitely a drinking week coming up for me if I have to put up with her ass.

bread or crackers to soak up whatever alcohol may be left in your system. A lot of people swear by greasy food as well. Drink lots of water you are dehydrated. Feel better soon!

LMAO- this cracked me up. Ugh, it sucks though! Been there done that......Feel better! Get home as early as possible and go to bed! Honestly rehydrate at work and get your ass to bed. When you wake up you will feel a lot better!!!

SO just texted me to see if we are still going to the gym at five. I may have hurt his feelings when I told him to take that idea and shove it up his ass. Sideways. Without lube. It's going to be a long day

Drink some Gatorade (or something similar) the elecrolytes will make you feel much better.

It's getting better. I took some sudafed for the sinus pressure and have been downing water like crazy. I drank approximately 4 glasses of wine. I remember a time when I could drink the jug of Vendange and still function the next day. Oh well, getting old sucks Smile SO just texted me back and put "Major LOL. Obviously you need a lawyergirl day." At least he has a good sense of humor.

But too much can make you surly. Or at least me. I'm pretty sure I said something to SO last night because he asked this morning if we are going to "make it through this." I hate when I can't remember things the next day.

Went I was active duty I deployed with a Canadian unit. We drank like fish every night and worked 12 hours every day. They swore vitamin C was the trick. I'd put a vitamin C drop next to a large glass of water and guzzled as soon as I woke up.

I am a puker (TMI I know) so when I drink too much it usually comes up before it sinks in. I usually feel better afterwards. I am about to turn 37 next month...I have no idea how "I partied like a rock star" 5 nights a week and never died. LOL

You'll feel better tomorrow.
