Parent Teacher conference.......

By its very name means kids don't go right :? :?

Do you or did you take your kids or skids to the conference??? SD has been hounding us about the conference she insists that she needs to go. Here it's set up strange in my opinion. First 8th grade seems too old for conferences. Second there is no assigned time all the teachers are in the cafeteria and parents show up between such and such time like a three hour span. Then you wait till your child's teacher is available.

That is not what I am used to at all. My bios always came home with a form and list of times and I went and met with the teacher.

The teachers probably don't want the hassle of missed appointment times and parents complaining about their assigned time. Ad no, I don't think kids are supposed to go.

I've taken kids and left them home. In my experience, most teachers WANT the kids there, too. You could contact the school to clarify.

As far as age goes... I go to my high schoolers' conferences. I was even at conferences for SD when she was a Senior and 18.
It's all about being an involved parent, imo.

My kids teachers have usually wanted the kids there starting at about 3rd grade they could sit outside the class room and then join in for the last part to have some input. My junior in high school still has conferences.

I would never take the kid in. But I never had Parent Teacher conferences with my BS. None of his schools ever did them, unless there was a problem. I think there was one in the 1st grade and that was it and he has been to both public and private schools.

Also, as a SM, I don't feel it is my place to go for stepkids. DH can handle that. It is his kid.
