HATE having to work today - GRRRRRRRRRR RANT
DH gets today off (like anyone working in a damn office SHOULD) but not me. He decided since he's off and stepdevil14 spent Turkey day with BM yesterday, he'll pick her up and take her over to his dad's and granddad's and "just spend quality time" together.
Did she call him yesterday? Nope! Has she called him since the last time they saw each other a week ago? Nope. I'm wondering if he'll ever get sick of always having to make the effort with her?
MY daughter, who lives in Michigan, called yesterday to wish us a Happy Thanksgiving and say she misses us. SD lives 4 miles away. She couldn't even take 2 seconds to TEXT DH.
I'm just pissy cuz I had to get out of a warm bed being snuggled by DH only to come to work, which is pointless since no one will really be working today. It's a waste of fucking time. Meanwhile, DH will likely sleep till 10 and then go pick up stepdevil and run her all over the place, and then when I get off work, he probably won't feel like doing much of anything.
FRICKIN GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
Ok, rant over. There are worse things in the world and I'm grateful for even HAVING a job.

Like you, I am grateful to
Like you, I am grateful to have employment when others are searching. However, I even CHOSE to work today instead of taking the day off like everyone else in the building did.
The reason was, my DH was going to be working anyway so why sit at home by myself? Welp, he overslept and got to work late, just to find out that they DO have the day off! So he was home a half hour later.
While *I* get to be sitting here...by myself...at work...at the school...that doesn't turn on the heat if the students aren't here. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
I'll trade you a freezing
I'll trade you a freezing school for the office that is located in the seventh circle of hell.
It's always cold in my office
It's always cold in my office too! I wear my coat most of the day. It sucks ass!
It's usually not too bad but
It's usually not too bad but today was the first "real" day of cold and bitter wind so I am very chilled. It is about 17 degrees here without the wind chill.
DAMN! That's some cold shit!
DAMN! That's some cold shit!
I hear you, having to go into
I hear you, having to go into work today sucks. The only benefits I've noticed are 1) There was no traffic this morning because of all the lucky bastards that don't have to go into work 2) I work in a research facility, so, I have complete silence in my office in order to motor through the data collection of the various research studies I'm working on. Some of it is difficult to work through (such as listening to interviews for coding purposes) when you have coworkers that want to chat about random things.
But, yes, we're lucky to have jobs.
PS My SD didn't get in touch with SO yesterday either. But, GUBM did *barf* She just had to text SO yesterday to tell him that she got the CS check (she didn't get it yesterday, likely day or so before hand and just waited so she could insert her lame-o self into our Thanksgiving). But. I don't even think SO bothered contacting SD yesterday. I know he called his family, but, not sure about Princess Pants.
I don't need to hit highways
I don't need to hit highways or major roads to get to work, so, that's probably why traffic was a breeze this morning. The news this morning did say the highways out here sucked today for that reason. The only delay was a car that was stopped in the middle of the road waiting for someone to come out of the house to go shopping (I could tell because she was wearing comfy shoes and carrying reusable shopping bags galore).
I'm sure the traffic later might be sucky, though, once everyone wakes up from the first round of shopping, or finishes their shopping trips, and are all heading home or out again.
Yeah, traffic was super
Yeah, traffic was super light. I had time to fill up my truck and I could've stopped for breakfast if I wanted. Glad you have good working conditions today.
DH didn't call SD yesterday either. I'm kinda glad he didn't, because I know she was expecting it. Heaven forbid SHE actually show some sort of effort!
Funny, DH just told me the other night that he's capping SD's Christmas present at $100 when I told him I was spending about $200 on my daughter. He said "Spend $300 on yours, since she actually makes an effort even from thousands of miles away to be a part of our lives and my kid can't even pick up the phone when she lives 4 miles away!"
So, my kid gets an extra nice Christmas this year!
I'm glad these guys are
I'm glad these guys are pulling their heads out of their backsides a little bit. Honestly, I get that these are their kids, their flesh and blood, but, how much are they willing to take in putting out all the effort? I would forgive SD's lack of effort when she was 10 and would partially forgive it when she was 11, but, I told SO when we were moving that as she was turning into an adolescent and young adult that I would not be gracing her "forgetfulness" in contacting him anymore. I get that at her age and upwards, friends become increasingly important over family, but, he makes effort to get in touch with her so I see no reason why she can't reciprocate even half as much.
We still haven't had the dreaded "fund cap" talk about SD's presents for bday or Christmas. I'm not looking forward to it at all. All that's been said was that we can't spend exorbitant amounts of money on SD.
Yep, he's taken this bullshit
Yep, he's taken this bullshit from her all her life and I told him that's crazy. My kid lives in Michigan (we're in Denver) and SHE makes more of an effort to be a part of my DH's life than his own??????
That is crazy. I don't have
That is crazy. I don't have any kids of my own, but, my family makes an effort to keep SO as part of their life even if they don't always like him. Heck, my mom was inpatient this week and she asked to talk to SO when I was on the phone with her. He gets all huffy sometimes when my sister sends out mass texts on holidays to wish people a merry/happy whatever, but, I'm willing to bet that it beats the pants off of being ignored. And, I'm sure if SD did that, he'd be tickled pink.
Yep, my family has only met
Yep, my family has only met DH a couple of times and THEY call us (and always talk to him) on holidays/his birthday/etc. SD never calls unless she wants something!
Same with my SD. Never calls
Same with my SD. Never calls to say hi, never texts to say hi, no "I love yous", no "happy thanksgiving", no "happy halloween", nothing. But, she'll call to ask SO to help her fix her laptop after she's broken it for the millionth time (and will then hang up on him when she's fixed the problem without so much as a 'thank you'), or, to find out if her Xbox is under warranty because she finally broke it and wants the new one that she deserved to get two years ago (her exact words). The only reason she wished him a happy bday this year is because she was here on his bday and would have looked like a right arse if she hadn't done so, but, even then it wasn't so much as a "happy birthday, dad" it was her thrusting his gift at him and saying, "here, for your birthday". But, that's something I guess. Small victories.
Yep, so selfish! I just
Yep, so selfish! I just don't understand why these guys let their kids treat them like shit. If my daughter treated me this way, I'd have a major problem with it!
For seriously! And SO never
For seriously! And SO never views it as being treated like shit. Oh, heaven forbid any cuss word comes out of my mouth in any possible relation to SD and the way she treats ANYONE (even me) because she's a golden Princess Pants child. She would NEVER treat her dadddyyyy like shit. Even now, after having experienced her bull for an entire month, SO still refuses to admit that she treats him like shit. He'll say she was being a 'brat', but, that's it. But, I've told him I call it like I see it, and what I saw was a heaping of shit dumped onto both of us by SD.
Read my next blog - this kid
Read my next blog - this kid is fucking horrific
I would also be working
I would also be working Christmas eve from 8-4:30, but I take my vacation every year from 12/20-ish to the New Year up in Michigan to spend the holidays with my daughter and family.
However; this year I had to cut my vacation to Detroit short by a few days and now I have to work New Year's eve from 8-4:30 cuz my boss will be entertaining her friends from Jersey. YAY...BLECH!
My daughter is the same age
My daughter is the same age as SD is and SHE called. She also called us on our wedding day, SD did not because she didn't want us to get married.
My point is he's told SD for months and months that relationships are two way streets. She can pick up the phone or send an "i love you" text every now and then, right? Lord knows she sends a gazillion texts to her friends every week, why can't ONE go to DH?
While I agree that at the age
While I agree that at the age RWF's SD is friends will be more important than family, it doesn't give her a complete pass from communicating with her father. Yes, parents are supposed to model this behavior to kids if they want them to adopt it for their own, but, it seems like RWF's DH is doing just that and SD is being a troll about it.
She is. He's told her for
She is. He's told her for months that he would LOVE a simple text from her from time to time, just to keep that communication and connection. If she can spend 1,000s of texts on her friends that she sees allllllll the time, can't she simply send ONE to DH once a week? Nope, not unless HE texts her first. It's fucking crazy!
SD is the same way and it
SD is the same way and it drives me nuts. It drove SO nuts while she visited because she was not only constantly chatting with friends, she was also chatting with GUBM and GUBM's loser boyfriend nearly EVERY day that she visited. He couldn't understand why SD would be up their asses like that but couldn't be bothered to text or call him once in a while just to say hi and not because she wanted something or needed him to do something.
Yeah, DH will be picking her
Yeah, DH will be picking her up shortly to spend the day with her and likely will take her to lunch and buy her something just because she asks for it. And yet, he won't hear from her unless HE contacts her. DISGUSTING if you ask me.
Very disgusting. If I acted
Very disgusting. If I acted this way towards my parents when I was her age, I'd be lucky to see the light of day let alone be taken out to lunch or bought something because I asked.
My brother has to work today
My brother has to work today also, he said everyone who came in is surfing eBay or reading books. I don't understand why offices are even opened, I would think they would lose money paying employees today, especially when in a lot of cases, nothing productive can be accomplished because no one is at work!
That's exactly how it is here
That's exactly how it is here today too. I got my "morning" stuff done in 20 minutes and have been online and chatting here and on FB ever since and will likely spend the rest of my day doing just that.
Well enjoy your "down day"
Well enjoy your "down day" while you are getting paid to chat on here!
Only problem with this is
Only problem with this is EVERY day here is a "down" day. We've been so super slow the past year, year and a half that I have to worry about getting laid off constantly. It's pretty stressful actually and I'd rather be busy because every day goes by sooooo damn slowly when you're bored.
I'm SO grateful to have this job and yes, people would kill to have a job as cushy as mine - but yeah, I'd rather be busy and secure than slow and freaked out I'm gonna be unemployed!
I can't handle sitting all
I can't handle sitting all day. I actaully switched careers a few years ago and am now an athletic trainer at a local college. The majority of my athletes are NCAA soccer players (hence my screen name). I love it, I am always moving and always outside. It's fantastic.
I used to be a veterinary
I used to be a veterinary assistant/dog trainer. LOVED that work. But when my daughter was young and still living with me, it was hard because I worked evenings, weekends, holidays, etc. It just wasn't conducive to family life with all those crazy hours so I switched to office work. M-F, 8-4:30, most holidays and all weekends off.
With my bad knees now (patellofemoral syndrome in both), I can't really do much physical work anymore anyway. I get up and walk around a lot due to my knees will ache like crazy if I don't move around, but yeah, that's about it.
One thing I don't like is
One thing I don't like is that I have a lot of off time with this job. Of all week. Off two weeks at Christmas...most of the summer. If I don't work, I don't get paid (contract employee) and I like money. So I started doing clinics, tournaments and I am teaching a First Aid class (16 week course-that should be interesting) at the school next semester. I also organized a tennis open (tournament) in Januray. I have to stay busy for my sanity. I was a stay at home mom for too many years, that was hard for me!
I used to be a vet tech. I
I used to be a vet tech. I switched to working in an office just because I took a temp job while I was unemployed after the veterinarian had to close due to health issues. I took a temp job that was supposed to be 1-2 months, got hired and stayed there for 7-8 years.
I moved and they allowed me to transfer to another office. That office had VERY little work. I ended up going back to college and getting a degree in IT.
Now, instead of my work being slow, my work is almost non-existent at times, punctuated with brief periods of frenzied work! But at least the pay is better.
Your current work sounds at
Your current work sounds at lot like my SO's work. He's in IT, too and that's exactly how he puts his full-time job. Lots of down time punctuated by brief peiords of frenzied work.
I always had to work on the
I always had to work on the Friday after Thanksgiving - banking. Weird odd holidays when the bank was shut but no time off when it was open. Vacation had to be taken in one week or two week increments.
Yeah my boss is not
Yeah my boss is not sympathetic because she's had to work every Friday after T Day for the past 6 yrs. I've only worked for this company for 2 yrs and have had to work these two Fridays. I complain because every other job I've ever had didn't make us work this day except retail jobs when I was younger.
Oh I'm sympathetic because I
Oh I'm sympathetic because I know first hand how sucky it is to have to work when most others are off. I was not doing direct customer service so there wasn't much to do.
