Picky SD can't enjoy Irish cuisine
Or culture. Ok, I've heard food there can be bland. DH has been talking to SD everyday on GBM's phone and apparently SD found a good burger there once. I asked DH how SD was doing yesterday (they've been there 4 days now) and he said she's griping that the yogurt is sour and she can't find anything that she'll eat now.
Also, there's no kids her age at their 5 star hotels. What did she expect? She's travelling with her grandparents and I'm 100% sure buying tons of crap daily.
Oh well, as long as I don't get asked to help with her 2 week homework packet and I'm done asking about the experience of a lifetime that her spoiled butt can't enjoy. I'm in orientation for my new job this week and am so happy to be here! Also, baby girl is 26 weeks and moving so much now!
Edit: we took SD to breakfast before she left on Tuesday and DH had to tell her to get off her phone at the table and she was grumpy and bratty the whole time. DH told her to "cheer up" and stop being so negative. She barley touched her burrito and said she wasn't very hungry, could eat later, and just had her normal crap attitude until DH bought her colored pencils on the way to the airport.

Ireland is a modern country
Ireland is a modern country and you can get any type of food. I can't imagine why they wanted to drag a 12-year-old on an international trip.
My oldest son would have
My oldest son would have enjoyed it (he's a history buff) and been very greatful. All depends on the kid. A spoiled brat will enjoy and be thankful for nothing.
This is what I dreaded about
This is what I dreaded about DH possibly taking SD14 on a trip to England. SD would have MAJOR issues finding food she wanted to eat and I'm sure DH would have had to take 3x as long finding a place (while I went on my merry way BTW, I don't cater to her). And all the walking. LOL. She complained if she had to walk more than 3 blocks, she had no concept of the walking involved there. But that's all water under the bridge b/c she's certainly not going with us this spring!
We are planning on taking SD12 (she'll be 13 then) however. I think she'll love the food and she doesn't mind exploring and walking and getting out and doing things. She'll have a blast - she wasn't ready last year but I think she is now. The trick is DH getting BM to agree to it.
Your SD is a picky sucky
Your SD is a picky sucky eater anyway. No matter what the grandparents do to try and please her, food wise, it won't suit SD. You know what a turd she is over meals at your house.
If the kiddo gave this trip half a chance, she'd enjoy herself. But then she is rather a lazy thing with moods at home too, so what's the difference.
My GS loves traveling. Loves to try the foods. Has long learned which ones he truly does not like. He has no troubles with any age people, but most times there is a family friend or family member who tags along he can chat with and relate. His maternal grandmother lives in one country over there with vacation homes in a couple other countries so GS has been over quite a number of times. Always something new, fun and exciting.
I will admit though, that he loves coming home and being back to what he is used to.What he usually most wants is a burger from the grill for his first meal back home. He smiles and says 'there is nowhere like home'. LOL.
If your SD would stop her whining, she'd likely find herself actually having a good time.
We were there in the Spring.
We were there in the Spring. While not spicy hot, the food certainly was not bland. I can only imagine SD staring at the black and white pudding on the breakfast buffet.
