losing weight.. who's with me!

sunny_skies's picture

ok, so my DD is now 2months old, and I am feeling so huge that I'm actually uncomfortable, BUT.. here I am at a restaurant, with FDH, SS3 and DD, ordering burger and fries. ARGH!

I just can't get motivated, even though I've put on like 50pounds during pregnancy, AND we're getting married this year!!! ..my biggest fear is looking back at wedding photos and feeling miserable about how big I was Sad

anyone want to motivate eachother? I'm thinking of joining a slimming class this week, as it might force me to be "good" if I need to be weighed every week!

Hi Sunny,

I think you should consider the Paleo diet. I've been on it for about 4 years. I went from a size 10/12 to a size 2. You are never hungry and you have tons of energy. Everyone I know who has tried it swears by it. Your skin also glows.

I would say that my diet is 75% healthy fats. Like coconut oil, avocado, eggs, nuts and olives. Healthy fats actually help you lose weight, especially coconut oil. It speeds up you metabolism and makes you feel full.

Paleo makes you feel incredible. I have a ton of energy and I sleep well.

If you are strict Paleo you cut out:

Wheat
Dairy
Grains
Legumes (including peanuts, they are a legume)
Sugar

The very best site for Paleo info is Robb Wolfe's site:

http://robbwolf.com/

He has wonderful podcats and recipes. His book called "The Paleo Solution" is a must read.

Another awesome Site is calle The Whole 30:

Paleo is life changing. You will feel amamzing and drop those unwanted pounds - fast.

There are a lot of great recipe sites out there as well.

http://paleomg.com/ (if you are trying to lose weight I wouldn't mess with the Paleo treats and breads)

I also have a cook book of Paleo crock pot recipes. I make fajitas, taco salad, chicken marsala and all kinds of wonderful foods. I never feel deprived.

Another important book to read is called "Wheat Belly". It explains why wheat is making people fat and sick.

I promise you will never, ever feel better no matter how old you are. The "diet" is really an anti-inflammatory diet and that is why people feel and look so much better on it.

I also only eat organic and non GMO food if at all possible. I would never, ever go back to eating the "standard American diet".

I do work out and lift weights, but I started looking incredible after my switch to Paleo. I could give a 20 year old a run for her money.

I can't recommend this diet enough!

I hear ya! I had such a hard time getting back into shape after baby arrived. I'm not there yet, but I'm working on becoming a fitness junkie. Apparently it takes a while to get addicted to the "workout burn", but I'm getting there. You feel so good when you workout first thing in the morning. And I am by no means a morning person. I know it may sound crude, but how I got "motivated" was calorie counting. And as they say, there's an app for that! Makes it easier to just log that stuff into your phone to keep track of the energy going in, and to log your activity to track the energy going out. I wish you luck!

I gained weight in the last year after quitting smoking, then had surgery on my quad. I want to lose 10-15 lbs I just started diet and exercise again after the "polar vortex" I already feel better, but I do high protein cut out carbs and 30 min of ballet beautiful (I can't yet get through all the exercises but it's actually a good work out) soon as I have some $ again I'll go back to belly dancing which is the best workout ever

Ooh belly dancing I used to love that! ..I'm feeling a bit self conscious at the moment though, BUT apparantly the more wobbly bits the better when it comes to belly dancing lol

I have a Paleo question - when you use Coconut oil or shredded coconut to cook with, does it flavor everything with a coconut taste? I have often looked at the Paleo diet, but I really don't like the taste of coconut.

Thanks! Maybe I will give it a try. Do you just subsitute it for anything you would have normally used Vegetable or Canola oil, or Pam spray for?

Make sure your coconut oil is organic and unrefined. They are much better for you and have a very pleasant taste.

I eat mine by the spoonful and I love the Ziggie flavored brand.

Thanks! My new years resolution this year was to give up sugar in most forms. (Last year I geve up lunchmeat successfully and now the thought of lunchmeat makes me want to vomit). But maybe I can give up sugar PLUS change my fats - win, win!

wow that's great, what an achievement, well done!!! you must feel amazing! Biggrin ..I'm hoping to be where you are very soon!

I would love to join everyone in losing weight, it would be great to have a support system with each other. Should we post something like we do BIOT and Eff Off Fridays? What I like is the fact that not only losing weight will be great for my health and self-esteem, but it will PISS OFF BM }:) LOL

sunny_skies's picture

oh wow yay! that's a good idea! posting every week will keep me motivated, and hopefully others too! ..actually I vaguely remember another ST member doing that, was it sailor girl? ..I don't post much, as to be perfectly honest I don't have much confidence meeting people IRL right now, let alone online! maybe posting every week would build my confidence in *that* too! ..ok maybe I should if it wouldn't annoy people on here being off topic of step parenting, lol! ..right ok guys, get ready, this week will be the start of Tone Up Tuesday! Biggrin

HadEnoughx5's picture

Former started Bitch It Out Thursdays and Eff Off Fridays and they are not all about being a Step Parent. It's just what ever you have on your mind and you can blurt it out. I think Tone Up Tuesdays is a good title and maybe more people will join us or at least share their idea's of how to stay healthy.

Thanks for starting this Sunny, I needed it. And you know eventually it will be a BM topic anyway because she will be pissed off and more games will happen from her Smile
