OT Electric/Gas Bill
Does this sound right to you? I rent out one of my houses and this month, Coned charged me $950 for gas and electricity. WTF?!?!
I called them and they said that was right, the meter reads double what I had last January.
Last Jan, my tenants had the heat blasting and the front door OPEN and it only cost me $450. I'm going to the house Monday to check the meter myself.
I pay for utilities so that's why this freaks me out.

I would change your contract
I would change your contract to have utilities paid in their names.
I am going to for the next
I am going to for the next set of tenants. I think Coned might be screwing around too because combined for November and December was $950.
Can you say grow op?!?
Can you say grow op?!?
Have them come out and see if
Have them come out and see if there's a gas leak.
Then, replace all the bulbs with energy efficient bulbs.
Can't you change to "tenant pays utilities"? If they don't have a lease you can usually make changes with 30 days notice.
I know a land lord who has
I know a land lord who has utilities included until a certain amount then the tenants rent goes up it's part of the lease agreement and you may want to do that for these people. Are they under a lease agreement? When it's up are you having them leave or?
They have a month to month
They have a month to month lease. They agreed to leave in June. Just thank my lucky stars they will leave rather than squat.
You know what... I wouldn't
You know what... I wouldn't be surprised. College kids. I didn't think it was possible to have it this high since my previous tenants blasted everything. Come to think of it, the grow lites used could probably be whats up.
That was a clue for us. We
That was a clue for us. We had renters do the same thing, totally tore the basement up with their grow. It was very scary trying to get them out.
