Please tell me all teenagers are this stupid and inconsiderate

I have five fur-babies. Cats and dogs. They are not just 'mine' but everyone's...there's enough for one fur-baby per person in the house. That's a lot of people, right?

Then why am I the only one to remember to take care of them?

Every now and then I specifically ask a skid or my own kid (all teens) to take care of the pets...either to just make sure to let out the dog (and, apparently, I have to tell them to let the dog back in, too) or to do that and feed everyone. It's like 5 minutes of effort. THEY NEVER REMEMBER TO DO IT. (DH is almost as bad as the skids/kid.) I remind, I ask, I even explain why it's necessary (maybe I'm working late, maybe I have an appointment after work). I check with them. I leave them a text. Nothing. It's at least 40 minutes of running around to go home to do it.

WTF? Are they that self-centered and forgetful that when all five animals come running up to them when they get home from school that it doesn't trigger a single GD thing in their head about taking care of the pets? How the f-ing lazy can you be? Yesterday I specifically asked my kid to do it. He did not. I had to be somewhere so I had to leave work early. NOT GOOD. Boy did I give him the business.

My SD15 as much as i dislike her is super good with animals. She always walks and feeds the dog and gives him lots of care and attention when at our home.

I am a big animal lover. My 1st grader got a hamster at her dad's house and she told me it died because no one remembered to feed or water it. I was HORRIFIED. It didn't happen at my house but I lectured her so hard and was so mad that that poor helpless animal was stuck in a cage with no one to water it and how it must feel to die to thirst that she cried and cried and I didn't care. I won't let her have one at my house .

My 7 year old's dad got her another hamster for Christmas. Or maybe its a gerbil. Anyway, its names is Gibbles and you better damn well believe she feeds and waters and cleans its cage at her dad's house now after the lecture I gave her. We went out of town over Spring Break and she called her dad every night to make sure he or SM was feeding and watering Gibbles.

Yes they are all that way. Thunderfoot can't even remember to put her hamster back in its cage after she puts it in the excersice ball. I would dare ask her to watch or care for my beloved Buckwheat!

Yeah, pretty sure all teenagers are all either stupid, inconsiderate or both! I, myself, have a 14 year old bio-son and have come to understand why so many people use the phrase "teenagers suck"..now, he's not a horrible kid...but he has morphed from a sweet compassionate little guy, to a mouthy know-it-all who thinks I'm the dumbest person alive..and I was a stupid inconsiderate teenager from time to time..I think it's just something in the brain that triggers the moment they turn 13 lol Smile

I didn't even have to read your blog...only the title...to answer Yes, they are. Smile

This is exactly the reason we don't have any pets. I know that I will be the one that will do everything after the novelity of it wears off.

SD16 has been begging for us to get a pet. She has 5 at BM's that she complains about taking care of. DH has said one day he will just come home with one. I told him if he does, either him or the animal will be going back to the pound.
