The War of the Sandwich
This morning was interesting. SD9 woke up in one of her moods. She was whining all morning. I was making her lunch since DH was running late. I made all three of the kids' sandwiches. As I was finishing up, SD9 came in and told me to remake her sandwich, b/c I put the may on the bread and not between the cheese and chicken. Apparently, she doesn't like her mayo on her bread. And yes, she told me. Her exact words, "Completely make my sandwich the right way. I am not eating that. You need to make it the right way." I told her that we weren't making another sandwich and she could just eat it. I finished up and had the kids put their food in their lunch boxes. I noticed that SD9 didn't put her sandwich in her lunchbox. I asked her about it. She told me that she was putting in last. So I go into my office and check my work email. At this point, DH comes home from work. I go into the kitchen and he is making SD9 another sandwich!!! That little brat gave me the biggest smile.
I asked DH loudly, WTH are you doing? He said, SD9 said she needed a new sandwich. I explained that I told her that she couldn't have a new sandwich. He looked at me and said, "I think that she does. If it fell on the floor.."
I exploded. I explained (loudly) that the sandwich didn't fall on the floor. She just didn't want to eat it because I put may on the bread instead of the chicken. He asked her if that was true. Of course, she turned on the water works. DH wasn't buying it though. He grabbed the sandwich I made and handed it to her. He told her to go get her shoes on. Of course, she was crying the whole time.
SD9 put her shoes on and came back. She asked him what he did with the sandwich he made. He told her that he ate it. LOL. The kid really thought he would give her the sandwich. He walked her to school and explained her punishment. The kid is going to be doing homework and chores only tonight. And going to be very early. Hopefully, she will learn...

My DH would have done the
My DH would have done the same; although he knows well enough by now to ask me because skid tries to manipulate so often :O . PS. Now I want a sandwich and it is all your fault!! haha
I would add to that
I would add to that punishment that she makes her own sandwich for at least a month. Kudos to your DH.
^^Agree with Robin. Skid
^^Agree with Robin.
Skid needs to be punished for both lying/manipulating AND speaking so disrespectfully to an adult. She's old enough to make her own lunch and to learn not to bite the hand that feeds her. This is a great opportunity to teach her about gratitude. Heck, make her make all three lunches.
Hopefully she learnt her
Hopefully she learnt her lessons but don't hold your breath. Kudos to your DH.
A.
What a little brat! I must
What a little brat!
I must admit that I was lucky, my SD would have NEVER said that crap to me.And then lie? I am so glad she did not get away with it.
DP would have made her the
DP would have made her the sandwich, no repercussions.
Which is why I don't make lunches for SD11 any longer and will phase in SD9 making her own lunches later this year as she turns 10 (the time I stopped making SD11 lunches).
"Completely make my sandwich
"Completely make my sandwich the right way. I am not eating that. You need to make it the right way."
oh hell no. No 9 year old is gonna talk to me that way.
I would have taken the whole lunch away from her.
Tellin' ME what to do? I don't think so, sister!!
Go DH! My SO would have given
Go DH! My SO would have given me a 90 minute lecture about not treating "his daughter" right because she has an allergic reaction to mayo that touches bread & how could I be so insensitive! Love it!
thankfully the boys know
thankfully the boys know better than to address me like this! they 'order' dh around (he doesnt see it that way, says that's just the way they talk - and i've noticed how they address their friends, grandparents, and such, it really IS the way they talk). but with me they get the hairy-eyeball, raised eyebrow look, complete with head jiggle as i say "exCUSE me?"
they always back-track and ask politely. }:)
How did you control yourself
How did you control yourself from slapping her right in the kisser when she mouthed off to you? Ugh. Brat.
Like others have said, time for her to cater to her own ridiculous demands - she can make her own sandwich going forward. DONE.
I would have had to stop
I would have had to stop myself from taking that sandwich apart and rubbing that mayo all over her face. And then sticking the cheese to it.
I would pay you $1 million to
I would pay you $1 million to see that.
I'll take that million, it
I'll take that million, it would be worth pissing my DH off. He would punish her for speaking to me that way but he doesn't think making a sandwich out of her face is the way to do it.
Well he could not be more
Well he could not be more wrong!!
Good story.
Good story.
If it was me, I would have
If it was me, I would have taken the sandwich, rinsed under hot water put it back in the back said "All better, now lets get to school!"
