BIOT

my dear sweet strong amazingly wonderful husband totally broke down last night. it was so sad. right before i got home he had gotten a call from the doctor. when i pulled up he was sitting on the front steps with his head in his hands.

they STILL cant figure out what's wrong with his insides. the most recent round of testing came back completely normal. they doubled the meds that are supposed to help since he no longer has a gallbladder and said if that doesnt work he needs to admit himself to xyz-kickass hospital over an hour away, and STAY THERE until they figure it out. said hospital costs out the d@mn nose - we simply dont have it. and no one would take kaos indefinitely. but the only other option is to puke-and-$#it himself to death.

so BIOT to mystery medical issues and incompetent doctors.

Oh Hon, I feel for you. My DH has some health issues that they can't seem to figure out and it's a bitch.

They have NO idea what's causing this?

Tuff Noogies's picture

i honestly think it's crohn's or something similar that was always there but hidden until triggered by massive stress. but the GI doc has ruled out EVERYTHING. and he's the best one around.

Tuff Noogies's picture

yes jasper they did.

EFFING NORMAL.

meanwhile he barely eats anything and yet has put on weight - not just by the scale, but he's so bloated Cray 2

That sucks, Tuff. Sorry to hear!! xoxo

My BIOT is to DH's work. Looks like he'll be working this weekend. Dammit.

Crohn's or simple IBS. either is horrible... My DH suffers too and it sucks.

he does take meds that help. i strongly doubt he wants any more appointments - i've encouraged him to find someone more qualified than his last psyc. but between the GI doc and tests, and the BS with his shoulder and physical therapy, i dont know... the poor guy just needs a break.

speaking of break, he broke another bone in his foot. i really need to get him on a calcium supplement, as his body is clearly not absorbing any nutrients... i need a d@mn magic wand, to make him feel better and to transport us to fiji for a month!

Tuff Noogies's picture

nope. we rarely drink soda, but go through generally a gallon of milk a day.

the first time he broke three bones just walking down the hallway. i was standing right next to him the other day - on carpet, he shifted his wait to toss one of the kid's shirts into the dryer, and POP. he leaned up on the washer for a good 10 minutes and said "there goes another one."

abdominal pain
nausea and vomiting
fast onset need to find a bathroom (aka the runs)
weight gain and bloating

that's it. it's like he's got the stomach flu 24/7. it's not better or worse based on what he's eaten or the time of day. oddly enough, the only thing that even eases it some is a couple beers.

I have self managed my T-1 diabetes for years. I see my Endo regularly. I tell him what I want, he writes the Rx. He manages the cholesterol and bp meds, I manage the diabetes meds.

Occassionally he convinces me to try a new med. I give it 6-12mos and if it works it stays. If not it goes. I am an engineer. I am about the data and actual performance. Engineers do not practice. We deliver. Doctors on the other hand.... they practice.

Never forget that your docs work for you. Just like your lawyers. If they are not delivering. Find one that is worth a shit.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a disorder of a sensitive digestive tract with symptoms of bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, or a change in function of the bowel.
The intestines continue to absorb fat, carbohydrate and protein for energy and if eaten in excess will cause weight gain.

Tuff Noogies's picture

yes - no parasites. he's had a hydascan, CT, MRI, that one where they watch your food go through, colonoscopy, endoscopy, two stool samples and probably fifteen blood tests. all normal with the exception of the first one.

our regular doctor is very familiar with what's going on - i've asked him to call her to see if she'll just do a trial run on an IBS medicine. i have not heard back from him yet so i dont know if he's gotten through to her yet or what.

I read an article a few weeks ago about a young child that was developmentally delayed and they couldn't figure out why. Turns out the child had a SEVERE gluten allergy. Because his digestive tract was so messed up from the allergy it was not able to absorb any nutrients which was causing the developmental delays. But the kid wasn't underweight! how that's possible I don't know but this went on for years, until the kid was about 4 I think until they figured it out. Just a thought!

Hope your hubby gets better soon

Jasper, put a dollop of something sweet on the goat cheese. We like apple butter, pear butter, cherry butter/jam, blueberry jam, strawberry jam...

Monchichi's picture

ZoMG I want to come to where ever you live. We get butter and that's it. No flavored butter unless it's filled with garlic.

Aniki-Moderator's picture

Monchichi, those fruit butters are stewed/spiced fruit spreads.

But you can always make flavored butters. Let the butter soften, mix with any number of things, and re-chill for a bit. Fresh herbs, garlic, honey, jams, jellies...

hubby used to get it from a lady through work who, instead of cinnamon and cloves, would use pulverized RedHots. OMG THAT WAS AWESOME STUFF.

Tuff Noogies's picture

i wonder if you can do that with a softer fruit, like plumbs or figs?

that'd be incredible with bleu cheese.....

Stress tears up by GI track. If I am not stressed nothing I eat bothers me. If I am stressed all bets are off on eating. I suffer.

Now an intersting blood glucose management fact. Alcohol will lower your BG. Particularly in the AM. Your liver is normally constantly filtering insulin out of your blood stream but is you have a couple of drinks the liver switches to filtering out the alcohol and the insulin remains in your blood doing its job.

This is particularly visible in people who suffer from the dawn effect that drives BG up in the early AM.

A couple of shots before bedtime and BG is notably lower in the AM.

Just some sweet people trivia.

I went through a few months worth of mystery illness a couple of years ago - it was similar to what you are describing and finally had a different ER Dr. try something no one else had thought of before and sure enough the test they preformed came back positive for Clostridium Difficile Colitis (C. diff), Ecoli, and Norovirus...

The C.Diff was from too many antibiotics given to me and was killing all the good and bad in my system... it can cause death if not treated. the Ecoli and Norovirus was due to my body not being able to fight anything.

It just took the one Dr. to think to actually check for it for it to be discovered. The test is painless, just need a stool sample... treated it with a totally different antibiotic (Flagyl) and have been like new since then!

Tuff Noogies's picture

THANK you, i just texted him to ask him to check on if that was included when he had stool samples done.

oldladieswearpurple's picture

It was a terribly scary time for me - months of tests and different Dr's - I truly believe that last ER doctor saved my life by doing this - I was really fading!

Tuff Noogies's picture

update on "Sir" - last test was NEG for c.diff. but they're willing to re-test. *sigh*. hoping he can get in on monday to see G.P. and see if she's willing to do a trial run on some IBS meds.......

oldladieswearpurple's picture

Thanks for the update! Glad to hear they are testing for it, sorry it wasn't it...

I just got over cdiff. Two rounds of antibiotics, flagyl then vancomycin. What finally worked was probiotics. Florastor- 4 pills a day while I was on the vanco. Kept taking the florastor for several months. Florastor is a yeast that protects your intestines. When I weaned off the Florastor I had to build up the good bacteria, so I started taking Culturelle and slowly weaned off the Florastor. Culturelle is a good bacteria- lactobacillus gg. Google culturelle/ lactobacillus gg - good for so many things. Lots of research on it. Florastor too. They are finding more and more that gut bacteria has a lot to do with health issues. Hope this helps. Even if he tests neg for cdiff- it may help.
