Where do I even begin? So sick and tired of SD17!!!
She is an ungrateful, entitled, little BRAT! I have had it with this child! For her 17th birthday she told us she wanted us to get her flowers -- so I got her 3 roses with balloons, but I didn't have them sent to the school so she was disappointed! Seriously. Also got her a beautiful scarf, bought her a nice cake, decorated the house and was going to give her $100 cash. Instead of the cash, she wanted to get her ear pierced -- when we got there she talked about getting two piercings. Because she was excited and was going to do two at the same time, it was going to be $110 (weird piercings that's why so spendy), so I figured I would do it. But she decided on the one piercing, which was $60 and included a tip. So that meant she had $40 left.
At one point she asked for $20 to go to the movies, and I told her that would diminish her b-day money. She told me she wanted me to hold the money so she wouldn't spend it. I knew that was a bad idea. She has accused me of stealing money from her before! Like I need to steal money from her! I managed her bank account for her, and she would forget when she would ask me to take money out for her, etc., and she would forget and when she would forget what she spent it on, she would ask me. I wouldn't remember what she spent it on, wasn't my job. So she then accused me of stealing the money from her! Pissed me off so bad that i went down and closed the account and gave her the money out of the account. Little bitch.
So anyways, back to the birthday money. So because she couldn't remember what she spent the money on, obviously I must be lying -- is what she said. Pissed me off. So i wrote her a letter, gave her a frickin' check for $40, and was done with the whole thing. Told her that from this point forward ALL money given to her will be by check only -- no more cash EVER since she can't remember. I am also not taking her to get her ear pierced -- she has to be 18 or have a parents consent. Her Dad is not taking her -- so too bad so sad. I told her that next year she would not tell us what we would get her for a present because that is not what presents are supposed to be about -- told her she was not entitled to a gift -- that gifts are supposed to be joyful -- and now this was anything but joyful.
I also told her she was ungrateful. She told me that I was pushing her around! I asked her WHEN!!?? She says that she has to work 1-2 days per week and go to school and pay for all her own stuff. Seriously?? I was blown away. We never talk! So when the hell am I pushing her around? Told her that too! She couldn't answer me as to when I was pushing her around. As to working I told her that is learning responsibility -- and reminded her of all the money we have given her, the purchases we have made for her, etc. I about came unglued on my DH when he was defending some of this crap she was saying. She began whining and saying she had to pay for her SAT tests and her sports fee -- we didn't even know about these! How can we pay for something we didn't even know about/????? Seriously?!!
Another argument is that she is responsible for cleaning the cat box -- it's her cat. My DH asked her last night to clean it. She did not. It stunk to high heaven. So after she pissed me off, I quit texting her and was not going to deal with her but did text her to clean the cat box when she got home like her Dad told her to do the night before. She responds with "Please?" I responded "Please what?" And she says "Please clean the cat box?" I almost came through the phone at her! I then texted her "how about you learn to clean up after your cat without us having to remind you to all the time or I'm getting rid of your cat." Something to that effect -- I threw in frickin' in there somewhere. I was frickin' pissed!
Please keep in mind I don't normally speak this way to his kids -- but I have had it with the two that are home now -- HAD IT! I have been practicing disengaging the last month, and it's been so much better for me emotionally. For me to have engaged today was a huge mistake.
I needed to vent and get this out. I had two good days with them -- I knew it was too good to be true!
into the cat box?

Ahhh, this is common teen
Ahhh, this is common teen behaviour. My Bio kids tried the same thing not to mention my stepsons.
I would redirect all communication through DH. Catbox cleaning? DH. Money? DH. The thing is logic like "If you don't TELL us something is due do not b1-tch us out about having to pay for it yourself!" Because this doesn't play into the pity party.
SS's would do this to us "Mom had to pay ALL my SAT fee by herself and you didn't pay anything." DH would respond... "I was unaware the fee is due, I have not recieved any notices or accounts owing or even a phone call from your mother. If she had let me know I would have helped. But she didn't. I cannot pay for something I don't know is due."
Or you can drag the cat box into her room and tell her that as she is comfortable with the smell she is welcome to have the box in her room for the forseeable future.
^ I was just thinking that.
^ I was just thinking that. Put the litter box in her room.
also on her birthday after
also on her birthday after getting her ear pierce -- i took her and her friend to Red Robin, and then her Dad took her later on another day out to dinner with her brother. i mean, who gets all of that for their birthday??? It's because she is such a whiner and thinks she gets nothing! Pisses me off that i fell into the trap.
part of the problem is that my DH lost his phone -- part of the problem too is that i didn't think that answering her question about the ear piercing would blow into such a huge mess. And yes she is right, we always argue -- i blame her because she is a pain in the ass!
Disengaging has helped me,
Disengaging has helped me, not necessarily my relationship with my husband. I've told him that when she treats me badly, there isn't unconditional love kicking in for me. The more it happens, the more I dislike her and I pretty much can't stand to be around her at all right now. The more you require the dad to do, the less emotional you feel when you get treated like dirt.
tjlo -- you're exactly right.
tjlo -- you're exactly right. The last month i had been disengaging really good, and had basically not been talking to her or her brother -- it had probably been even longer. But the other night when she asked me if she could go get her other ear pierced, she had been talking to me the day before and had been being nice to me that day too, so I was feeling hopeful I guess. I should have known better that she was being nice to me because she wanted something. And that was the thing.
Her Dad told her next time she wants something to talk to him and him only because it seems that she and I cannot talk without fighting. Which I am realizing is totally true. Part of it is because I can't stand her anymore. She has been mean to me for far too long --- and just like you, there is no unconditional love that kicks in with her at all. I just want her to go away and stay away forever.
And to top it off again, now her brother is not talking to me again. This is my f'ing life.
My DH have been fighting quite a bit lately, and I feel like i have a weight on my chest -- and some days all I can think is "I hate my life" and I want out of it.
I just think that 3 out of the 4 of his kids are idiots. He has one kid that turned out good.
It is tough when the Dad
It is tough when the Dad doesn't acknowledge that it is the TEENAGER who is being disrespectful. Why are they allowed to be argumentative by the bio parent? My husband actually had the nerve to say he couldn't stand listening to us argue like teenagers. Excuse me? I'm 42 years old and I was only pointing out to SD that if she wouldn't throw dirty underwear on her bedroom floor the dog won't chew them up. It is OUR fault because someone opened the door from the shared bathroom. And dad proceeds to give her $40 to go by more. When your husband tells his teen that she needs to come to him because you two can't talk without fighting, he is completely overlooking the opportunity to tell her it is not okay to be disrespectful and argue with an adult. They do it to get there WAY, and my SD has it down to a science. I need to take lessons from her in how to be manipulative because I missed that training as a teen!
i just had to vent that she
i just had to vent that she is so irritating. She is telling her Dad about her college choices and that she is going to be a Christian counselor, and is telling her Dad that this other girl that is friends with her is also going to be a Christian counselor -- this other girl had an affair with my friend's husband. This other girl wont' acknowledge that she did something wrong -- it was all him. This other girl -- she was best friend's with the husband's wife. i am so irritated right now just even listening to this twit talk. i realize God forgives us and for that I'm thankful, but this other girl has so many issues and she thinks she is going to counsel other people! And my SD17 has so many issues -- seriously she thinks that it is going to be easy to be a counselor -- she will crumble when she has to go to college. She freaks when she has homework now -- freaks that she has to work 1-2 days a week and 'life is so hard'. Well, she is going to get the reality slap in the face soon.
Put the catbox on her bed. OR
Put the catbox on her bed. OR in her closet with her clothes. Let her smell it for a while.
