Gearing up for the holiday
So far, nothing has come of SD's grandfather pushing the custody issue. He had planned on going to the police at the end of last week to file a report, but due to the snow storm he had to work pretty much all day Friday and most of the weekend (works for electric co) so as of yesterday, he was planning on going today. I really hope this all does not lose momentum. SD has gotten her hopes up around this issue too many times, and I'd hate to see it all fall apart now.
As things stand right now, we have SD for Christmas, though BM could blow a gasket and refuse at any moment, as of right now, she agrees. We are picking SD up on Christmas day at 10:00 am, and taking her to see my family in Massachusetts for the afternoon, then we'll drive back to our house in CT and open all of our presents, and SD will spend the night with us. I actually find it sad that SD would rather spend the holiday with her stepmom's family and of course dad and stepmom than with her mother and her siblings. Just goes to show how awful that family is. She said she feels more like part of our family than part of theirs, so she'd rather be with us. Poor kid....
I also got a real thrill this weekend too. SD asked me to help her with her homework I talk to her about her homework a lot, as her what she's studying, what she finds interesting about what she's studying, help her find resources for papers she's writing, things like that, but this time I actually sat down and helped her research a paper for her math class, and it made me feel really good! We had fun doing it together too, which was also nice.
FH was thrilled too, and it didn't hurt that her grandfather called right in the middle of it, and FH proudly told him that we had just finished eating a wonderful meal I made, and now northernsiren was helping SD with homework while FH was wrapping presents. The grandfather actually relayed to FH to thank me for all I do for SD, and he's so happy I'm in her life and that FH and I can give her the home he wants for her so much. FH thanked me too, what a good night
So the presents are piling up around the tree, and I'm feeling really good about the holiday. The one cloud on the horizon (what else is new) is BM, wondering if she will pull some crap at the last minute, and ruin christmas for us all. I really really hope something comes from all this custody business very soon, I am sick to death of living in fear of that woman "striking" down the happiness we create for ourselves and for SD just out of her own pettiness and mean spirited evil.
Fingers, toes, eyes, and legs crossed that BM will be too preoccupied with her "family" to have some freakout about SD, and things can go off without a hitch!!!!

:) thank you, she makes it easy...
SD is a great kid, I don't think BM realizes how apparent her about SD are, b/c when she's with us, she's helpful, polite, gracious, appreciative, excited to be a part of our activities and generally agreeable to whatever we want, to the point of being slightly annoying b/c we can't drag out of her what SHE really wants. (if that's the worst problem we have, I'll take it).
She came over in the middle of the snow storm wearing the galoshes we bought her and a pair of socks. Apparently she outgrew her snow boots, and has none. Her grandfather just bought her an expensive pair, but doesn't want her taking them to BM's house, so I just got back from Marshalls, I bought her an inexpensive pair. The kid cannot be standing outside waiting for the bus, not to mention shoveling the BM's walk and driveway (also SD's job) in galoshes for godsake.
Makes me so mad, I might even get FH to drop them off at BM's house tomorrow, I can't stand to think about the poor kid freezing and no one over there gives a damn....

I am hoping that
everything will go as planned! I dont want to down anything, but I do want to warn you about something. When DH went to p/u SD's in GA and bring them back to KY for visitation one yr, she called the police as soon as we crossed state lines and reported them kidnapped by us! Long story short, we didnt get into any trouble, BUT we could have. be prepared for the worst, but hope for the best!
Oh Sia, all too familiar
BM pulled this crap with us over the summer, because we were bringing SD to cape cod with us. Basically she didn't like the fact we were going to go to provincetown b/c "there are gay people there" and had a conniption when FH said we had already planned to take her on a whale watch to and to the pirate museum there. It was bad!!!!!
So yes, that is entirely possible, all I can do is hope for the best....
