doubts on disengaging
Forums:
sometime ago we had to put our kitty to sleep at the age of nineteen. he was the fur baby in the house and i suspect sds were jealous of him.
we put a ceramic cat statue on top of the wooden box holding his ashes and sds smirked and rolled their eyes.
if i had any doubts about disengaging this got rid of them permanently.
That's a long time to have
That's a long time to have lived with an animal I'm really sorry. Kids are pretty stupid. Let us know how disengagement goes. Have you read this article:

i appreciate the comments and
i appreciate the comments and thoughts. the skids are in their twenties and always resented kittys high vet bills that cut into money dh could have been giving to them. they are both self absorbed, vain and greedy. i am already disengaged but things like this confirm that i need to stay that way.
Though Skidmark was sensitive
Though Skidmark was sensitive to my loss, the death of my long-time sole companion made me realize that I'll never be able to love that kid as much as I loved the cat.
I tried to love that kid. Hell, I even tried to like her. I tried to be a family and provide what her selfish mother denied her. Once I realized that she'd never truly have a place in my heart, disengaging felt like a sigh of relief.
May your Skids someday love hard enough to understand what you've lost.
