Got a text from SD13.. and now I feel guilty

SD13 has lots of issues. Liar, not the smartest cookie, can not keep friends, has been screaming in my face the last 3 times we had her, is extremely jealous of everybody and every situation, wants constant attention.. the list goes on and on.
She text me today while at school and said "I'm sorry for being disrespectful. I will try to be nicer and I should treat you better." Sad
We got along for the most part until recently.
I am trying to not get my hopes up that we have turned a corner but I guess we will see this weekend when we have her.

Actions speak louder than words:) It's a good sign that she may realize that her behavior is impacting other people negatively and that she isn't the only one that has feelings. Unfortunately, teen girls can be a mess and tough to deal with.

Why feel guilty about this.... ever. She has texted you a few words which mean absolutely ZERO until she demonstrates improvement through her actual behavior.

Write it and her off until she steps up with behavior. Until then... Yawn!

Hopefully this is an actual epiphany on her part and not either a blip on the RADAR screen or the set up for a manipulation.

Take care of you....

I have been trying with Winona SD18, and its been working quite well. Being nice and friendly instead of reserved, including her in conversations. Leaving her mostly alone. Im still tired of having her around 24/7.

The guilt is part of the stepparent trap right?

Words mean nothing. If she doesn't back those words up with consistent, sustained, heartfelt action, they're meaningless.

She's 13? Hmmmmm, I think I've seen/heard this type of speak before. I think it's teen code speak for buttering up the adult in preparation for the huge 'can I go/do/have _____?' they're about to drop on you.

13 is a hard age. Maybe she is trying.

Try to remember this about the word Guilt, ok?

Guilt is for an immoral or illegal action. Usually the folks who should feel guilt seldom feel it OR anything for that matter, as the mow over the next person.

stop feeling guilty - I replied on your other post more but forgot to say this.
