Used toys for Christmas

I just want to know what people think of DH and I buying used toys for SS,at Christmas. I haven't got them yet but am just starting to plan my Christmas shopping. I thought I might want to take a look in the garage sale types of stores or online for a used but in good condition scooter for SS. Now to be fair I get my DD a lot of used stuff as well. I have no problem with it. I only get stuff that is clean and in great condition and smoke free. The scooter would only be part of the present. We are planning to spend no more than 100 on his presents. Is this a good idea?

Didn't ask him yet...I don't think he will care though. He's cheap but whe it comes to his son, he loves shelling out the big bucks, can anyone say disneyndad?

When I was bringing up my adult bios, my exH and I had little money, and one Xmas I bought a large collection of "My Little Ponies" and a pony castle, from a friend with older children. My daughters remember this as a really good present - and had loads of fun with them.
I think secondhand presents are fine for pre-teen kids. After that they might turn their noses up a bit at "pre-loved" gifts.

I love Ebay! My SS is actually getting a bunch of old vintange tin and diecast cars from ebay for christmas. His dad thinks it is awesome he will get to play with toys close to what we got to play with.

I believe there is no issue at all with second hand toys as long as it is fixable or in good condition. So many kids these days only play with stuff for a certain amount of time or get double christmas as mentioned in someone elses thread -- why should we all spend a ton of money when we know they are going to go back to BM or Gparents and get double or triple presents?

If it's scooter that's fine. My ex husband gave our son a huge bin of Lego for Christmas last year that was used. It was a great idea, just wish he washed them first lol But it is nothing a bathtub and a cup of bleach didn't fix. He loved them regardless.

My slides are getting used books this year. Got a lot of 32 books in good condition for 30 buck (including shipping). I couldn't have bought them each two new books for that, and now they will each get 16 books.

So long as the condition is ok, used is perfectly fine.

So far this xmas, every single thing I have purchased for my bios and skid are from a facebook page in my local community called "XXX county online yard sale"....excellent used condition toys for less than half the price of buying the toy new. I will buy BOWS for the toys and they will just look like I took them out of their boxes and put them under the tree. Our kids are young and we are not rich. this way they all get some good stuff, and they will have zero idea they are gently used!!!

My mom got almost all of our Christmas presents from garage sales throughout the year. We loved them. We wouldn't have gotten as much if she didn't have that option, because early on my parents struggled. I shop thrift stores now with my daughter and she loves it. More clothes! LOL

I had assumed the boys father would know ahead of time. Include him in the purchase and ask him to refurbish the scooter and other items you buy. The can be taken apart, cleaned, repainted and oiled if appropriate.

I would not hesitate to use recycled toys for all he children in he household.

Conversely I remember one Chrstmas I received exactly one gift. I was an Erector Set, the metal equilivent of Lego bricks today. It was expensive and although I was vaguely disappointed at the time I now recognize the wisdom of receiving a toy which required me to use my imagination (something I'm not sure Lego requires).

If you don't think Legos requires imagination, you haven't played with Legos in a WHILE! OMG my kids have an entire town they created out of Lego parts from various Star Wars sets and other sets he got along the way. They can play for HOURS and come up with the most amazing things.
