When a family member's kid grows up to be weird looking.

Rags's picture

And friend and family worship the absolutely strange looking kid as strikingly attractive.

I know, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder... but ...... weird looking is weird looking.

Kinda cartoonish, with a bit of poor taste in hair style and clothing thrown in for "good" measure.

Unusually for me, I am biting my tongue.

FB is such an entertaining time sink.

smh

Just because it is weird to you doesn't mean it is weird.  Why even post this?  How do you think you'd fare in a Facebook evaluation of looks? This whole thing has a real mean girl vibe to me.

Rags's picture

Back in the day, I would have faired very well. Now, not so well at all.  I had my kid trend moments, just like every generation does.  I was an early adopter of the iconic Mullet hair style, I wore elephant bell Levi's, etc... I see those pictures now and think how weird I looked.

I posted it because Skid dress, hygiene, etc... is a regular topic on STalk.  It just struck me as one of those things that make me go Hmmm?

Crspyew's picture

Social media makes it so easy for us to judge others.  Again, hmmmmm to you is some one else's normal.  I wish we could all be a little kinder these days.

AdultSkid is disheveled, unkempt, unwashed, putrid and is also very unattractive. I don't care what clothes he wears but he wears the same tattered, smelly BM clothes for a week at a time. His inside is worse than the outside. It took two weeks to get the horrible smell out of his disgusting ex bedroom even after getting rid of his furniture.q

Crspyew's picture

You don't like the way he smells?  I get it.  It's really easy to dunk on how some one looks.  But looks are immutable.  And are you still married to the awesome parent that let this happen in your home?

ImFreeAtLast's picture

What was my husband supposed to do? AdultSkid would complain to BM and Bm would scream and shout. It doesn't matter anyway because Adultskid doesn't live here anymore. If you had really understood me you'd realize the big problem is AdultSkids Inside even more than his outside.

And I say that because I am truly hoping,...  Your lack of understanding of why the the family appears to be overly accepting and supportive, shows that maybe you have not experienced having a child or a family member who is a little different.  One can not help the hand that they were dealt ... good looking or not.... And for people to act as though life and acceptance is all attached to how one looks shows how sad life can be.  Kudos to the family that puts this child up on a pedestal and builds up his or her self esteem!!  It will make it that much harder for the cruel people he or she will encounter in the world to knock them off!!

I offer you a tip....  Watch the movie "Wonder"  with Julia Roberts /Owen Wilson/Jacob Tremblay.  It is an incredible movie.  Then after you watch it, let me know if your question is answered about why your friends parents are  treating the child like they have no abnormalities...

Rags's picture

It was just a thing that entered my mind at that moment. This young man would very handsome if he peeled off his obsession with gaming and cartoon characters.  I will watch the movie.  Thanks for the recomendation.

to this issue .... I appreciate your response...kind instead of defensive...

I had a brother who was different.  I spent most of my childhood sticking close by him through painful angry comments.  Sometimes even a punch or too.  He was alone and it broke my heart.  He was such a nice kid if people took the time to get to know him and looked past his differentness.

Please do watch the movie.  A little heart wrenching at times but the message and the outcome are worth it.

Unusually for me, I am biting my tongue.

But you're not.  You're writing something here.

Why do you care how this kid looks, or how his family sees him?  What business is it of yours?

Where we should feel free to say what we want without judgement. Chillax

How many on here have said BM looks gawd awful hand raised, I have described her as a donut queen. Or our SD's who dress like whores. Or SS's who stink to high heaven.

Chill, Rags was sharing his thoughts here.

SD reminds me of  mia thermopolis and josie grossy BEFORE their make overs... and made babies with shrek, she's kinda built like a refridgerator, no REAL shape, just large and boxy. I am not shaming her, it just adds to the weird look. super frizzy matted hair, large head, large chin, large ears, rectangular shaped large body. I think what makes it worse is her behavior, LITERALLY for a 16 year old you'd look in and be appauled with the infantile behavior she exhibits. she's been over indulged her entire life, and when she cries EVERYONE has always given in and so now, thats ALL she does, she cries and throws fits about made up scenarios, exaggerated scenarios, manipulated scenarios, etc. and shes the UGLIEST cryer think of James Van Der Beek (dawson creek meme) and Kim Kardashian blended together.

I love to read on this site about problems with step kids and some suggestions for help. We all need that don't we? I could care less if someone looks weird. I could care less that you think someone looks weird. What is weird is that you wrote a blog about it. SMH Who cares?

My post was most notably ill considered.

Pardon

In my small town high school there was a girl who was taller than all the boys and kind of gangly. She was really sweet but got made fun of a lot because of how different she looked. Guess where she ended up after high school? Modeling in New York. The last laugh was on everyone who made fun of her! Sometimes people go through an  ugly duckling stage then emerge as the Swan.

Rags's picture

My DW was and is  very much like the person you describe.

Sir,  Ill considered or not, many of us have steps who are just unkempt.  My previously handsome, well dressed, sociable SS28, now looks like an anorexic, angry hobo and I hope this look is not the latest fashion trend.   I guess living in BM basement, gaming all day and night and not working for the last 5 years has had some detrimental effects.  Not sure why BM ignores/supports these changes, but others do notice and sometimes comment,  as you did in your initial post.

Rags's picture

From striking to weird looking, by choice.  Sad.  Some people are just "weird" looking without a choice. I would not comment on those people.  Those who choose to be weird looking, I will comment on.

Lack of hygiene and being unkempt is a choice.  As is a penchant for pursuing the game character/cartoon appearance. Combine the two light on the poor hygiene and heavy on the pursuit of strange and there is the distant relatives kid I first commented on.

IDontCare3117's picture

Those who choose to be weird looking, I will comment on.

Why do you care?  Seriously.  That's high school crap.

I think it's too funny how people gush about how cute even the ugliest kids are

It's like it's a socialital obligation to call a kid cute even if you're cringing inside saying it. Why not just say, "let's hope he grows up to have a nice personality." I said that to my ex. His son was not cute and also happened to be a spoiled little brat. He has these beady little eyes, big nose and pointy chin. He looked anemic and malnourished and probably was after all his years of living off frozen french fries.

Just say it people ...
