OT - Fall Fun

Aniki-Moderator's picture

I actually had a very good weekend (no skid - woo hoo!). After a crazy work week and a lot of rain, we finally had nice weather on Saturday. Nice as in a dusting of snow, cool temps (41 degrees), and time with my handsome hubby.

We finally tried the relatively new coffee place and I have a new love: Vanilla Cardamom Latte. The cardamom used in the latte is green, which is my fave.

From there, we headed south to check out Agate Falls (links below). Beautiful!! It was a little windy, which was ideal. The leaves were drifting down like a colorful snowfall of reds, yellows, and oranges. DH picked me a big bouquet of gorgeous leaves to take home. I'll be busy with the iron and some wax paper tonight, preserving them.

What fun plans do you have for Fall?

We have a Halloween baby shower planned for this weekend for my best friends daughter, so I'm excited to host this since Halloween is my favorite.

We don't get the beautiful fall foliage here in the desert, instead we just get wind, bone piercing cold wind, but it's okay I love it because now it means I am not sweating to death.

A Halloween baby shower?! That sounds cool!! Please tell me more. Smile

Yeah. NOT a fan of sweating. Blech.

Lol I tried so hard for gory yet fun baby games but my friend vetoed them...her very religious mother will be there and she doesn’t want the drama....but you never know a few carved out pumpkins filled with “bloody show” “umbilical cord” and “placenta” might just some how be there.

Too bad because that sounds hilarious! Have you seen the carved pumpkin giving birth to a baby pumpkin?

California doesnt have much in the way of diverse weather, but you can definitely feel the difference in temperature, and in the more rural areas the leaves are turning golden. The light has a golden-bllue hue to it. The grapes are being crushed, so there are loads of fall harvest parties. Biggrin PLenty of wine to taste!

For Halloween, we are going to a Pumpkin Farm, that is local. I want to finally get some decorations. I have been underemployed for a while, and finally my pay scale is moving upwards, so we will have more disposable income finally. This is OUR year for trick-or-treating, and I was hoping to cajol DH into getting a couples costume, but no luck yet. I keep bugging to go camping before November! Hasnt happened. Might get to go fishing, but there are stalls there too!!!

Those water falls look gorgeous! Here we are dryer than a bone, and the river is super low, so not much fun to float around in.

I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for many years.  October was often much hotter than June - at least in Palo Alto.   I absolutely broiled at many a Stanford football game even into November sometimes.

That sounds great! I absolutely love fall activities. This weekend we are going to do some sort of pumpkin patch thing during the day with skids, and then at night I think we will take SS and do a haunted house. SD9 would not appreciate so hopefully SO's parents will take her for the night.

The following weekend, my SO and I are going to a place that's sort of a vacation destination in our state for the weekend, about 3-1/2 hours from us. We go every Oct, usually just for 1 night, but that's never enough so this year we are doing the whole weekend. I can't WAIT. It is beautiful- fall colors are always still bright there, there are lots of quaint towns and wineries (my SO is not a huge wine drinker but even he likes to do this here), cute restaurants, amazing hikes along the lake that has crystal blue water. We always go out and drink too much one night, but we have SO much fun, without fail. Just a really pretty place to go in fall.

Re-doing the floors in three rooms!  A huge improvement.

And getting new kitchen counters/sink!  Yay me!

Hopefully going to take a lovely fall trip to a nearby locale for Thanksgiving....other than that stuff, pretty minimal plans for extracurriculars.

Cover, what kind of change to the floors? We still need to put in our kitchen floor, but before that happens, 4 panels need replacing (update).

I wouldn't call my plans fun, but helping others has its own rewards.  A wolf refuge a few counties over was damaged by Hurricane Michael last week.  There are a lot of trees down, damaged enclosures, and a missing wolf...https://www.seacrestwolfpreserve.org/

My ex-supervisor and her husband were up there last weekend helping, so I want to go this weekend.

We are playing the waiting game on visiting our brother at the prison, since it was damaged as well.  My state got the crap knocked out of it as I am sure you've all seen.

Aniki...those waterfalls look amazing!

It certainly does! Hope the wolf is found.

They ARE amazing! There were several guys fishing down at the bottom of the falls. They have to darn near dress for scuba diving. There is NO way you can fish down there without getting soaked!
