OT-Interviews these days
So I had my phone interview today. It's with a very known company in my previous industry. I was very excited to see the jobs posted and the changes they are making. My previous company was a client of theirs also -so I've worked with some of their departments very closely. This interview was with the recruiter. She advised that what she does it makes a presentation of our interview (it was over the phone) and then if they want to proceed, it goes on to 3 more stages (Hiring manager, another operational manager and then the final is with the VP). They will all be done via Webex. It's a job function I've done previously in my company but not my latest role. I'm assuming this is the norm when starting with a new company these days?
Since I worked 2 decades plus for one company, any interviews for other positions was typically just with one/two hiring managers or manager and GM. Things have changed so drastically> I actually got this call even with my 'antiquated' resume. I have paid a consulting company and they will be working on my resume more, cover letter (which I didn't provide this time) and Linkedin profile. There is SO much more to the job search and interview process then 20 years ago. It's actually quite overwhelming and intimidating. I don't know how these young un's from college can cope with it all lol.
Not to mention the whole ATS crap which means your resume and experience that could be a perfect match for a position isn't even looked at because of this dumb system. It seems odd you would have to just enter every single keyword in a job description and modify your resume and cover letter for every single position/company, etc. Nothing is simple anymore. It's sure been a shock to the system being out there job searching.
I spend time looking at the companies, Linkedin, updating resume, researching salaries/reviews/benefits on glassdoor, I mean I spend a LOT of time/hours every week. I was getting so discouraged because after dozens of applications and 6 weeks I had heard nothing back until now. I know it's because of resume format only- and not because what I have to offer isn't valuable. Just ranting I guess.

That's great news on the interview. Well done. Your chat with the recruiter sounds really positive.
My husband paid someone to update his resume and linked-in profile a couple of years ago and it seemed to make a big difference for him. I think that if you can afford it then it is wise to invest in getting a professional to write them these days. You are an expert in your field but not in optimising your resume for HR recruting systems and it is not worth your time to become one when you can pay someone else to do it.

I know another hard part of hiring right now (at least with what I am dealing with) is the THOUSANDS of resumes to go through and so many of the people applying don't even want to work. So many no shows, accept an offer and then disappear, etc.
I think with the extended unemployment benefits, it is going to change and people will start working again but it has been rough on employers. Even people making 75-100K, if they have more than one kid in daycare, bringing home $900+ a week makes it worth while to stay home with those kids. Especially while school was online.

Craigs list
I got my current wonderful job on craigs list.
But I do customize my cover letter quite a bit. I do not really customize my resume a huge amount, but my area of work is pretty standard.
I also worked with a temp company (hated it!!!!) for temp-to-hire positions (never did!) but really, its so weird that people are not wanting to get back to work.

You're on the right track
I found my most recent jobs via LinkedIn, Glassdoor, and Craigslist; its definitely different!
Agree its a good investment having your resume & LI updated by a pro. Infographical resumes are fun & get HR/Recruiter attention, too, so consider it (depending on your industry(ies)).
