Selective Amnesia Soup AKA Clean Slate Syndrome

CLove's picture

I am taking all the advice as given - and re reading daily to instill everything inside my brain.

Funny story insertion.

Last night, after I came home from work a little tired, husband and I had our daily conversation about "what are we doing for dinner".

I had purchased pork ribs on sale, and we have our normal convo. He quips "and powersulk can do it tonight!"

I got quiet and said nothing, smiled blankly and nodded vaguely.

He sait there grinning as he got on the phone and called Powersulk, "hey guess what? You get to make the nilaga for tonights dinner!" (recipe to follow)

her: "aaaaaw...ok"

So the night goes on, and Im cleaning and they are in the kitchen, with him giving instructions on how to make this particular soup. She does all as instructed, minus the powersulking. They are bonding over cooking. How NICE! For them. We sit down and eat, my comments "this is delicious!" and husband "hmmmmm" and powersulk "hehehe". It was on the surface a perfect evening! Ok, yes Im doing the set up. Us all together in a happy household, everyone in a good mood...kiddo helping out in the kitchen...husband cleaning...Im watering plants, and organizing my room.

As we are eating powersulk-turned-simperson makes the comment "this is so good! And easy to make! And its my first time doing this!"

Jaw drop. All I could do at first was just look. Said nothing. Then quietly "you dont remember?"

PS-Simperson: ,,,"uhhhhhmmmm noooo?" in little girly voice.

CLove: "you dont remember when I took you to the grocery store, showed you where the ingredients were, bought them, and showed you how to prepare this exact soup?

PS-simperson: "noooooo I forgot???"

CLove: "yes, we did it twice I believe, with this particular soup...."

PS-Simperson: "ohhhhhh".

Folks, Ive always been amazed at the clean slate syndrome Ive seen with this group of nuts. No matter what happens, its like it never happened...its crazy making. But I know the game. Sweeten up because dont want Clove sour on her being there on extra time.

Nilaga

Nilaga (also written as nilagà) is a traditional meat stew or soup from the Philippines, made with boiled beef (nilagang baka) or pork (nilagang baboy) mixed with various vegetables. It is typically eaten with white rice and is served with soy sauce, patis (fish sauce), labuyo chilis, and calamansi on the side.

1. Boil water in soup pan.

2. Add chopped ginger, garlic, leaves of dried bay.

3. Add beef ribs or pork ribes, sliced. Cook aprox 1-1.5 hours.

4. Add peeled potatoes, chopped in half. Add chopped onions. Cook aprox 8 minutes until soft.

5. Add salt, pepper and lemon. Turn off boiling water.

6. Add cabbage - either napa or regular.

7. Serve over rice, add a capful of patis.

Someone said selective amnesia hit the nail on the head.

Good thing you pulled out your "receipts" to refresh her memory

She probably purposely "forgot" so her Disneyland dad could hold her hand and sing kumbayah for her "first time" meal prep

And also good that your husband instilling some life lessons into her by making her cook her food and do more than just exist and call CPS

Thats so funy! When Im being sarcastic about something such as that I also say "yeah maybe they can all sit together, hold hands, sing kumbaya together"....
So I looked it up:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumbaya

Its got quite an origination story, but check out the section under "political" heading:

"The title of the song is often used sarcastically in English-speaking countries, either to make fun of spirituality and interpersonal relationships or to criticize their superficiality."

More lolz

I'd fake concern over her being to young to have memory issues, maybe she needs to see a doctor about that.  Smirk.  Selective amnesia. Drives me insane.

to ER.

Maybe its caused by her "heart palpitations" or "lupus by association".

Selective amnesia/ clean slate syndrome -- Just after DH and I started dating, OSD moved out. DH came home one day and she was gone. She moved in with one guy (who stole the small inheritance she received from her mom) and then six months later moved and eloped with a different guy (whom DH had never met). After the marriage DH found out about his criminal history. SD claimed it wasn't real, he wasn't guilty, as he had pled no contest. Now she claims it never happened.

I know it sounds silly, but thats why such a need for documentation.

I got into a conversation last night - about narcissists, and how they create alternate realities. And get upset when you challenge that reality, and go into punisher mode, lash out, etc.

And yes girl I keep meticulous receipts and notes - Just in case they want to play clueless, clean slate, early onset dementia, and gaslight......nope! Not today I got the receipts!

Selective amnesia can be a two-way street.

Next time, simply say it's tasty. If you're ever asked if you remember XYZ, "Hmmm... I don't recall."

I don't believe powersulk doesn't remember. She pulled you into a conversation.

I dont think anything was directed at me specifically.

Like Ive done (to my detriment) in the past, when I brought up something in direct opposition to the statement made, she deflected.

Shes smart. She went vague. She was "buffing" out her father (rescuer) and feeding into the drama triangle (as I am learning).

I was just background noise.

When she plays the amnesia card again, have a mental margarita and say nothing. *give_rose*

The selective amnesia comment was intentional. To hurt, minimize, and manipulate CLove into responding.

It worked.

CLove's picture

I disagree, just due to the fact that all her attention and intention was soley focused on her father.

I dont think any consideration on that level exists in her for me. She doesnt consider me as anything more than dads wife.

memory.

Which I am at the cusp of. I used to have near Eidetic memory, not any more.    I have CRS now.  Can't Remember Shit.

Though it has improved significantly after my former #2 left and since I no longer work for the shit storm company I was with.  Stress is a brain killer.

Good move calling PSCPS on her baby voice "its my first time" making the dish bullshit.

Do you do this to yourself,..You know you will never get credit for anything.  Like teaching SD any thing good.
You must remain disengage.  She cooked so what! It was good. Sau Thank You because you are the bigger person
