YSD and fun facts

She got her driver's license! Shocking! But didn't come over that entire weekend because of the driving test. She's not exited at all about it, or at least around us. I told her now she can go to the beach or to the store whenever she wants to. "Yeah, I guess."

She also broke our toaster, said nothing (as she does) and we discovered it two days later. DH went and got a new one.

DH and BM had an email exchange about switching up winter and spring breaks with DH getting winter break so BM could visit colleges with YSD. He said ok and let's discuss details. Never got and answer and he just found out BM is taking her to colleges this week too...so he gets neither of the breaks. She's going to visit 5 colleges in 4 days! My god that's a lot, esp. for easily overwhelmed YSD. I suspect it's because YSD is completely withdrawn again from decision making and BM is covering all the bases. But several are strong liberal arts schools rather than strong in the sciences which is what she needs....and ALL are out of state! At least they aren't all private like OSDs search was.

DH also admitted last night that he recognizes his role in the PA tactics (and ongoing) that has resulted in a fractured relationship with OSD and a difficult one with YSD. That is HUGE. We had a good talk about it and that is also BIG. I think he's kind of giving up though. He was fretting about lack of involvement in YSDs college and we discussed her just shrugging in the last couple weeks when DH tried to talk about college with her. But all along BM has been planning with her. I told him you need to have a heart to heart with her, tell her you love her and want to see her have a good college experience and want to be involved...etc. he just looked like that was overwhelming and expressed non-committal reasons. Well, there you go then DH. I truly think he just doesn't know how to parent.

Meanwhile I am taking with my 19yo niece to make sure she enrolls in community college this summer. She expresses interest in several careers but all of them need some kind of college to do. This week was a break through in that she contacted an advisor at the CC she wants. I was so proud of her and told her to let me know either when her appointment is or how her appointment went!

I'm flashing back to my college tour trips with DD.  We planned to visit 3 in 2 days.  She fell in love with #2 and refused to get out of the car at #3.  Lol.

It could have been cuz #2 was in a vibrant part of a city and #3 was in the middle of a corn field....
