Wish me luck tomorrow!

As in response to a previous blog (that I did not mean to take on a life of it's own)-

"Tommorrow poor baby Zippy16.5 goes in to have 4 impacted molars removed under anesthetic (personally I would rather give birth to twins without an epidural than have 4 wisdom teeth removed at once)-

However -doting, mothering, hovering DH is all a twitter today with getting preps for Zippy coming home after surgery tomorrow morning-bouillon, jello, popsicles, chicken soup (Zippy's favourite commercial brands of course)-my DH will be in tears when I get home just looking at Zippy16.5 sleep and all the trauma the poor kid has gone through that Daddykins could not prevent-

DH's actual words: "Endora-poor Zippy,I wish I could take this away from him- sometimes life is so hard! ME  "

I know DH will not be able to sleep tonight on Zippy's behalf -of course Zip will be off the rest of the week and I happen to be off on Friday (I have arranged to have lunch with my BS)-

I understand I would be "sympathetic" to my teen having dental surgery-but not how DH is acting-going home in an hour to watch DH begin the doting process....sigh

But it's not like he's undergoing chemo or something. Getting your wisdom teeth out is part of growing up. Your DH, by acting like this is literally the end of the world, is teaching Zippy to be a whiny martyr. Kids take their lessons on how to react to life from their parents.

I agree:

in college. I lived to tell the tale, and except for being sleepy (and sick) from the anesthetic and sick to my stomach from the blood drainage, it wasn't that bad. But poor Zippy, I know that he is a delicate flower...

and she's the BIGGEST BABY on the face of the earth.
Seriously, she gets a hangnail and you'd think the world was coming to an end.

But somehow, even SHE SURVIVED!!! I told DH (in no uncertain terms) that while he certainly needed to be sypathetic to her, he DID not need to BABY HER.

What she did need was to take her medication, as directed by her doctor, so the pain was managable, and follow the discharge papers to the letter.

And guess what? In three days, she was fine. The first day she felt nothing because of the massive novacaine she was given. The second day, she slept. And by day three, she was feeling back to normal.

I had to give her and DH major props, because they could have been a lot worse.

Just remind them that it's all part of life and go about things as "matter of fact" and not give into the drama and you should be ok.

Good luck!

We all of course feel for anyone having the wisdoms removed. It's not fun.

But it's not a leg, either!

Does your H realize that the way he is bringing Zippy up, he'll never grow into a man?

Make sure you have a nice bottle of wine at home-for yourself. Lock you in the bedroom, drink and read a good book. Or I have a feeling you might become violently ill from watching H hoover over and nurse his poor darling back to health.

I came home from college for christmas break my freshman year and my mom had scheduled my 4 wisdom teeth to be yanked on Dec 30th, no going out with friends for me for new years, and dear mom took my prescription pain meds away from me after the surgery because they were addictive and gave me Tylenol. Cry me a freakin river DH and Zip

I don't see what the big deal is. DH obviously doesn't realize that there are worse things that his kid can go through other than getting 4 teeth pulled.

Psh.

He's acting as if Zippy is having an open heart surgery.
