OT- What can live under a house?
Hello everyone,
DH and I live in a house, on the side of the house where the fence door is we have our bathroom window which is covered by a tree/flowers, in front of the tree there is a pile of sand that we have noticed before but today DH noticed the pile got bigger, when you actually duck and look at it, there is a HOLE! as if something dug said sand. The hole is pretty big, about the size of a basketball, perhaps a lil' smaller. I have never seen weird creatures (ferrets, cats etc...) around my house. I have seen rabbits, snakes and I even found a turtle that became our pet. Oh and by the way, we life in Florida. What could this possibly be? I have no idea, I have never heard anything coming from under the ground (would I hear something at all).

Florida. The reptile and bug infested swamp.
Who knows what creature cold be excavating under your house in Florida. Reptile, Mammal, a big bug, introduced creatures from all over the world. Take your best guess.
I am just playing with you of course. I worked in Florida as a Catastrophe Insurance Adjuster and saw some wild damage caused by the flora, fauna and some mystery perils not to mention Hurricane Charlie and his buddies..
Try sprinkling cayene pepper in and around the hole. Whatever is digging will likely not come back. After a couple of days fill the hole then reapply the pepper. That is how we have stopped dogs from digging in places we don't want them to.
Best regards,
Thank you so much Rags!!

Hope it's not the begining of a sink hole. Didn't a house in FL get swallowed up by a sink hole last week and kill a couple people?!
Just thought I'd give you something else to worry about, you know, since step-parenting has no worries!

LOL. Actually we bought the house about 7 months ago, and the appraiser said its foundation was excellent

Gia,
I live in FL too, all my life (bleh) but it sounds like a gopher tortoise burrow. They're about the size of a basketball, dark grey/brown in color, eat grass and such. They're very common here where I live and the burrows go underground (obviously). They're not dangerous and are a protected species. If it is one consider yourself lucky, I think tortoise's are kinda cute. They love lettuce, if you see them out you can feed them, lettuce and carrots are their favorite.
