Spring eating? Kids grow in the spring, anyone else shocked by the volume

Dracos cereal mass consumption story seems to be the norm from others stories and I myself had a recent issue as well.
I bought a FAMILY size box of cereal on a Sunday evening because SD9 asked for it. We don't have kids on Monday/Tuesday, except only for only about an hour after school while they wait for BM.
SD9 and SS13 ate a whole 21 serving family size box of cereal and gallon of milk as an after school snack.
I told DH, but he said nothing to them, so I mentioned it to them and they switched to bagels...
They are now eating 2-3 bagels as an after school snack followed by a full dinner.
DH said "buy more fruit"
I DO! they eat 2 oranges, 2 apples and 4 bagels.

I know its spring, I know kids grow in the spring but seriously!

I hear you! I just spend 379.76 in groceries 2 weeks ago and another 55.00 this week and the shelves are bare! I have to refill again!
They ate 2 jars of peanut butter and 2 jars of jelly in a month, I have to restock the PB&J every 2 weeks!
I know kids grow in the spring, but this is the first time I've seen this volume!
We have 3 teens and a pre-teen!

food costs for teens is outrageous. dh and i were talking about this the other day. with our family, it's not even really cuz they're hungry - mss especially. well he gets hungry every hour or two, but he'll sit with an open bag of chips or cereal and just shovel it in mindlessly while playing on his phone.

thankfully dh has gotten better with food issues. he cooked breakfast yesterday, and yss says "but i dont want that, i just want bacon." dh- "no i'm not cooking that, u've got xyz on the table already." yss "but daaddyyyyy i dont want thaaaatttt." dh- "too bad, if u wont eat what i cooked then u can make yourself a turkey sandwich."

eventually yss got up and ate what dh had made. so dh IS improving Biggrin

but yeah, teens are regular hoovers. but i also remember my own parents griping about how my bro and i ate!!! unless u've got a locks on your fridge and cabinets, about all you can do is limit their choices.

Yea, That's been whats keeping me on the edge of my seat, I haven't said much, but I have pointed out once or twice to DH that our grocery bill has gone up over 250.00 a month since we made that change...and how 2 kids eat 250.00 in 8 after school snacks was beyond me till I saw them eat a 21 serving box of cereal as an after school snack. And Sd told me that "I just ate 2 bagels for breakfast but I'm still hungry" and then eats a bowl of cereal on top of that. OH MY! that's just breakfast! It must be the growing season!

Groceries is the biggest sink-hole to my budget. Even if you combine all the utilities together and the daycare expenses, Groceries would still be bigger.

I don't want to be a parent that puts a padlock on their fridge and cupboards to prevent the kids from snacking but geezus....I'm getting fed up of living hand to mouth,

Oh, and DW wants to redecorate the children's rooms over the summer.

With what budget?

Unless she has an inventive way to redecorate their rooms with empty milk jugs and cereal box cartons, I don't see that happening!

Mine too, We have a HUGE basket of fruit on the center of the table. DH thought it would be the solution to the over eating, but it just serves as their snack while they search.
We go through a bag of apples and a bag of oranges and 2 bunches of bananas a week.
CRAZY!
