Holiday blues

Hi other step parents, 

 

Does anyone else get school holiday blues and how do you cope with them or the holidays in general ?

In the US, school vacation used to run from June to Labor Day (early September).  I'd start getting depressed about May because school vacation meant the 3 wild SKs would be here almost all the time.  I'd start to perk up about mid-July since it would be half over.  

I don't really have any suggestions.  I tried everything, including an outing weekly: zoo, planetarium, river boat cruise, etc.  Nothing really helped, all I could do was endure it day after day.  Once the SKs moved in, things were still hectic but better because each made their own friends.  Often, they had friends here, so instead of 5 kids around here, there would be 7 or 8, counting the friends.  But that meant they entertained each other, somewhat.

I still recall those days -driving to the swimming pool, ice rink, horse ranch, etc etc. We bought a family pass to a swimming pool and they were there a lot.  I wish I'd had the solution back then, I'd share it with you now.  Lol.

our 6 week holidays are around x mas, but we have 2 week holidays between terms. But as you say its hard especially since all of a sudden BM wants to give the kid over extra. im assuming thats due to the fact we are in a lockdown right now, so nothing to do but stay inside really.
