O.T/ clogged ear

newbiestepmom25's picture

SS10 has had a clogged ear for the past 3 days. We tried all the internet remedies and nothing seems to work. He keeps putting his finger in his ear and wiggling it because he said that it gets un-clogged for a bit when he does that but I don't want him to end up with an ear ache. Using a q-tip just makes it worse.

Do any of you guys have a simple solution?

Yes - Get him to a doctor for antibiotics, he has an ear infection. I have suffered from them for years living in the north...Painful as hell and it sounds like his is just at the beginning. He needs an antibiotic.

there's one thing that may help until he can get into the doctor.

i dont nor have ever gotten ear infections, but a young lady works here that is plagued by them a couple times a year. she lays her head down sideways and puts a cap full of hydrogen peroxide in the affected ear. it'll hiss and bubble for a bit, then she covers it with a paper towel and tips her head the other way to drain it out. she swears up and down that a few times of this will clear it right up.

now i dont advise relying solely on this method, but with the bubbling it may help take some pressure off for him until he can get examined by the doc...

maybe it'll help!

It could be infected or he could make it infected if he keeps messing with it. I'd call his dr and talk to the nurse. He may have a build up of wax, an infection or whatever, but it's not something to keep poking fingers and Qtips at. My daughter has had to have a dr flush her ears once and she also has sinus drainage that inflames the inner ear. I think you need a drs opinion and let dr decide if a office visit is in need. Hearing and possible damage is not something to mess with. You've tried home treatment, it's not worked. Better to have dr take a look at it now.

Tell him to stop touching it. Take him to a doc to get it looked at, especially if accompanied by a fever.

If it's not accompanied by a fever, rubbing a little tea tree oil behind the ears works very well for my kids. Do it in the morning and in the evening for about a week, even if the pressure goes away sooner. Tea tree is a natural antibacterial, and it's pretty safe. Just keep it out of easy reach and do NOT let him eat it. Wink
