O.T/ Healthy homemade snacks

newbiestepmom25's picture

I need some ideas of some healthy snacks I can make for the boys this summer. They don't like strawberries grapes or veggies. So if you have any ideas for hidden veggie foods let me know. I just want them to be able to have tasty and healthy snacks that I know exactly what is in them.

* we live in florida so cool snacks like healthy popsicle ideas would be great. Thanks guys.

Do they like the dressing you get at Japanese restaurants? It's like 90% carrots and 10% everything else, so it's putting veggies on veggies.

Vietnamese summer rolls or vegetarian fried spring rolls are good.

Kimbap (korean rolled sushi which is usually stuffed with veggies are good) and so are regular vegetarian sushi.

Fried gyoza (dumplings)--Almost-Son who is 26 will not touch vegetables for the life of him... but he will eat fried vegetable gyoza which is hilarious to me--you can get them at the asian (or even american supermarkets), place them in a well oiled (corn oil) pan on high until they are just starting to turn golden on the bottom. Then mix a half cup water and a little bit of flour or corn starch or potato starch, pour inside pan and cover until the water has evaporated and the bottom of the gyoza is slightly charred. This ensures the top is steamed, the inside is juicy, and the bottom is crispy. Serve with soy sauce (it's even better if you mix the soy sauce with a little balsamic vinegar, sesame oil, and diced garlic.)

Have them make their own lettuce wraps.

If I think of any more I'll let you know. But the vegetable dumplings are my best bet for even the most stubborn anti-vegetable people.

you can freeze yogurt in those disposable bathroom cups.

My kids like strawberries but I'm sure it works for any fruit. I puree some strawberries or blueberries (those are their favorite and I do a layer of fruit, layer of vanilla yogurt and keep layering up to the top and stick a Popsicle stick in there and freeze it.

You could always do what I do to SS and DS. I leave a bowl of fruit out. You want a snack you eat from the bowl. If you don't want that you can wait until the next meal. I do the same thing with a veggie tray. I make a veggie tray and put it in the fridge if they are hungry they can eat that..if not they can wait until the next meal. I'm mean Smile
