Our vow renewal stuff.

Rags's picture

These are the vows we wrote for each other on our 20th/vow renewal and the first draft of what the kid wrote. He changed some of what he originally wrote but this is his original stuff.

We had a great day at a beautiful venue with friends and family not to mention some amazing food, wine, and cocktails.

Now I have to go back to work to pay for it.

Fun, fun, run.

Kid:

Welcome family and friends. We are here today to celebrate a milestone in the life of our family. This day is special as my mom and dad have decided to reaffirm their wedding vows on their 20th anniversary.

Grandpa, I think you would like to say something?

Mom and dad have had 20 years of life and adventure together. Much of their adventure and challenges have been about me. But, with parents as awesome as mom and dad how could I turn out anything but perfect?

The first time they exchanged vows I was not even 2 years old, my cousin was a few months old, and much of the family could not be there. This time most of the families are here as well as some new friends. Sadly mom's uncle will miss this second ceremony. He is loved and missed. Reverend Love officiated the first wedding in lake Tahoe. This time mom and dad asked if I would have that honor and responsibility. Thanks for making me face my fear of public speaking guys. I love you too …… I am not Reverend Love but their love is what has brought us here and it is their life together that we are here to celebrate.

Mom and dad have written vows they would like to share with each other and with all of us.

Which of you would like to start? I have a coin we can flip.

Dad why don’t you start?

Ceremony of the Rings

These rings are a symbol of the unbroken circle of love.

Love freely given has no beginning and no end,

No giver and no receiver for each is the giver and each is the receiver.

May these rings always remind you of the vows you have taken twenty

years ago and here again today.

Mom do you reaffirm your commitment to Dad?

Dad do you reaffirm your commitment to Mom?

Then by the power invested in me as the kid you may kiss your bride.... again!

Mom’s Vows

Everyday I fall in love with you over and over again.

I see your kindness to others.

I see your caring ways with all those to whom you come in contact.

I see your competence in everything you do.

I see your thoughtfulness in all you do.

I see your willingness to go out of your way to help others.

Every time I look in your eyes, I feel your love wash over me.

It warms and comforts me.

It is what allows me to go out into the world and be strong and confident.

Just knowing that you will be there when I come home keeps a smile in my heart all day long.

I still feel that little flutter inside, and, even after all these years,

My heart sings when I see you.

20 years ago, I promised

In the presence of God and our witnesses

To have and to hold you, Rags,

As my lawful wedded husband.

I promise again today

To be your friend, to comfort you, and to listen to you,

To celebrate your successes, and to support your struggles,

To love you, respect you and tenderly care for you

To honor, cherish and protect you

Forsaking all others and holding you forever.

I know so much more now about life,

But I have only begun to glimpse the wonder

Of having you as my life’s partner.

Before God and our witnesses

I renew my commitment to you today

And I pray that even death may never part us.

To quote Shakespeare:

My bounty is as boundless as the sea,

My love as deep; the more I give to thee,

The more I have, for both are infinite.

Dad’s Vows

More than 20 years ago I saw my future walk in to my life the first time I saw you. I told my brother and my friends that my beautiful bride was standing right there.

Though you told me to have good luck while fishing, I still am no fisherman. However, like most things in my life I caught what I wanted most in the world. I caught your heart. When we were first apart I knew that a ring would be more affordable than the phone bills so I decided I could no longer afford to talk to you and we would have to marry. You soon learned what everyone who knows me has always known, I never shut up and true to who I am I have not shut up since.

So, I sent my mother to help you pack and ever since we have pursued life and our future together. Marriage is not just about two people. Marriage is about families and our marriage made a family. When you said yes to being my wife you gave me the incomparable gift of making me a dad. For that gift I can only say thank you and to tell our son that he is the best gift I have ever received.

For 20 years we have made an exciting life, accomplished many things, and had an amazing adventure together. We have raised a son to be a man of character, we have chased our dreams, are seeing the world, and we are growing and thriving together.

You are my sunshine, my joy, my muse, and my inspiration. Your laugh is the light in my life and my greatest treasure. You are my brown eyed girl and I am proud to be the reason for those sexy little smile lines that show the happiness on your face.

I cherish every minute we have together and the rest of my life with you is far from long enough. Eternity may just be long enough to experience together with you.

Every day that you are the first thing I see when the sun comes up and are the last thing I see when the sun goes down I know I am a very blessed and lucky man.

I love you my beautiful.

((for the love of god... someone pass the KLEENEX... a few units of insulin would be appreciated too!))

I jest: Rags the ceremony sounds beautiful!!

Rags's picture

Damn. I wish 3 units would do something for me. I am so insulin resistant I use between 200 and 300 units per day. My insulin pump needs a turbo charger to keep my BG levels normalized.
