Well..... I got the call today.

Rags's picture

I got an offer.  Rather, I got THE offer.

I have been networking and applying for roles for just over a year since my short stint at a pre IPO start up.  I have submitted countless applications.

Two months ago a role stuck out and got my attention at a far deeper level than any of the others.  An interesting title was the hook that got me to dig into the role and submit an application.  Since applying I have have interviewed with 6 different people and had half a dozen Teems meetings with the reporting executive for the role.

They called me today with an offer.

The company is an established successful (80 year) company.  Approaching $1Bil in revenue.  Employee owned which adds a significant element of additional potential to add to retirement assets.

The offer is the highest base pay I have ever had. By a notable increase.  I have done well, but this is a whole new level.

Whew.  I am hopeful that this can be my last rodeo for 5 or 6 years so I can keep being my bride's partner and supportive of her smokin hot career so she can get her partnership role.

I have accepted verbally and am awaiting the written offer.   I start the middle of next month.

Now, if I can lock this one in for long enough, to do what I do and deliver results.....

Wonderful news!  You won't have to relocate, will you?

office here.  That is optimal.  The role is at a Sr/National responsibility level.  Having a local office for support is a good thing.

I have avoided roles that require relo unless they are very high earning. If I had no choice, a Sr level highly compensated relo role would work though I would negotiate a lump sum relo package and use that to set up a local residence and to travel home weekends.  Something I have done before though the per diem and travel was part of that offer.  I was home every weekend for 9mos.  At the end of the school year DW and SS joined me. We moved them on our dime.  We emptied and donated or sold everything in our home then listed the house for sale.  For the next 5yrs I was on per diem which paid for our housing, etc...  When SS went to boarding school, it paid for his tuition. When I received a new boss they ended the per diem which pissed the client off to no end since they then had to relo me which put the client under the hairy eyeball by their leaders.

That initiated me going for a transfer which.... gave a great relo package.

So, this is just about as ideal as it could be. Good salary, great role, moderate travel which I enjoy, and stability for DW's career.

DW's career remains the priority.

This one was basically written for me.  Their job description fit my background just about to the letter.

That sounds wonderful and Im sending prayers and good thoughts your way that this is the right place for you financially and in all other ways that will lift you and your love up ever higher.

I appreciate the prayers.  I will need them with this role.  I have been in a very similar role before and was able to do well.  This time it initially is an individual contributor role which is not ideal but the evolutionary vision that the sponsoring executive has has me building my own group. That, is exciting for me and where my interests and skills are strongest.

The challenge is that the highly knowledgeable resources are mostly well past retirement.  Though interestingly the references I used in the application process all expressed interest in joining the effort in a consulting capacity.  I have worked for them all and as peers to all but one at various times.  Their interest is a huge honor.

Thanks again CLove.  Take care of yourself.

I'm late with my response, buddy; have been canning like crazy. Just read your post to my DH and we are both delighted. It's mighty fine, when good things happen to good people! Hope that you'll still find time to engage with your cohorts here on ST?

All the best, my dear Rags; you deserve this great, new opportunity. Drinks
