NO one is required to leave
NO one is required to leave inheritance to anyone.
Years ago I posted, here on st, an article discussing this very same topic. Many very wealthy families DO NOT provide inheritance to their kids. They reported they want them to make their own way, on their own merit not their parents.
You need legal assistance to make sure you word it correctly.
Yup plenty of rich people donate to charity or go round the
World trip etc.
That shift started with the
That shift started with the age group after the boomers. I lived it, I saw it, I felt it ---everyone needs a trophy generation. Every 16 year old needs a car.
not necessary every adult but a large group of parents felt that way. Of our neighbors who were say 5 years younger than us--WENT for broke to give their kids everything. My x dh and I would stand there with our mouths dropped down on the sidewalks.
We want to give OUR KIDS everything we didnt get.------standard comments told to us.
True story.
I read about this some time
I read about this some time back, and was relieved to know that it's a thing with some smart, successful people.
I was relieved because, while I'm not especially in the smart and successful group, I was glad to know I'm not alone in intending to leave my kids only memories. I have worked very hard for what I have and they can either follow suit or not. (So far, sad to say, it's been not.) They know my stance, but DH's kid undoubtedly expects daddy to leave him something, even if most of it was provided by the hated SM. Sorry, Toots, but that's not going to happen. I cannot stand entitled brats, and I've arranged things so that if I die before DH, he will be provided for. And when we're both gone, everything left will go to charity.
I'm mean like that.
