How does a residential mother never see her kid?

It's half term this week, mum's working early at her new job so my DSD been staying here over nights during the week in addition to all weekend.

Well my husband works early too.
So I've been in care of my DSD while I -try- to work from home.

And honestly it doing my nut in.

The thing is DSD keeps telling me she misses her mum, well I'm not fucking surprised, she never even sees the woman!

On the nights she's not here, my husband finds out DSD's been staying at her grandmother's or at one of mum's friend's. And this is -after- he gets off the phone with her she's complaining she has her -all- the time.

What I don't understand is why a mother wants to much time away from her own child? She sees her for what? An hour max two days a week. The rest of the time DSD's sleeping or at school. She always seems to be in -someone else's- care instead of with her mum when she's supposed to be.
It makes me sad. And it's a real piss take if I should be totally honest.

I have no children of my own, my husband is non-residential but we have a somewhat 50-50 schedule and I have seen more of this child than either of her parents.
I'm around on dad's time and I seem to have her on mum's time too.

I'm the step mum, I should be the person people want -away- from their children!

Don't get me wrong, I love the little girl but it's hard to work and I'm losing money. I make time in my schedule when my step daughter's around and I know I won't get any work done. But I'm honestly tired of these surprise 'babysits'.

From now on no means no. Work is work regardless of whether it's away or in my home office.

I would be telling your H and his ex that you are WORKING and not able to babysit without losing your job. They made the kid, they can deal with it.

I'm self employed. I run a small 1-man business. I can be flexible but with the amount of time it's been taking away recently, although I won't lose my job per se, I really am losing out financially.

It would be cheaper to send her to a child minder!
