And since I've already been complaining about ss14
We took the kids on a three day trip for spring break. My kids will spend two more days with us before heading off for more fun with their dad and sm. Ss14 will be with is all week and will visit his mom for fri - sun.
As we were eating our final vacation breakfast together this morning, I asked the kids how they would rate our vacation on a scale of 1-10. To my surprise, my kids all came back with SUPER glowing reviews: 11, 13, 2500. This surprised me because I know they've visited the area several times with their father.
When ss finally came to the table and he had a chance to respond, he gave it a 7. Dh was floored. This was the first time that dh (who has primary custody and is a 43 year old man) had ever rented a cabin/ house for a vacation trip). Ss shrugged his shoulders and said that his Washington, D.C. Trip with his class last year was much better. Dh was highly irritated.
Don't know why I even ask this kid because he is always so ungreatful.

Guess who's summer vacations
Guess who's summer vacations will be taking place while as is conveniently exercising his two weeks on/off of visitation with his bm this summer. Dh can do a boohoo and stay at home or he can come along and have fun.

At least with my SK's that's "ingrained behavior". They have NEVER been happy no matter where we took them (and we have taken them on some pretty stinkin' cool vacations if I may say so myself).
But I rationalized it as this: their mom never took/takes them anywhere. She'll talk a big game, then at the last moment will cancel for some inane reason. Since they go thru that rollercoaster of disappointment with her time after time and end up minimizing it, they're going to do the same to us.
