Facepalm

My brother just found out his gf is pregnant. I brought up making sure he goes to court to get parental rights (in my state, with unmarried couples, only the mom has rights). He went off on this tangent about how she's such a wonderful person (they've been together all of 5 months) and how she would never keep his child from him.

I think he was a little offended when I laughed (like really hard). This is going to be interesting

5 months?  I have jars of mustard in my refrigerator that have been there longer than 5 months.  Just saying.

My SS decided to have a baby with a woman he was dating for somewhere around 6 months.  Apparently they were "deeply in love and made for each other in a way that no one else could possibly understand."  They had the kid, then got married, divorced 3ish months later and are now bitterly fighting over custody while each living with a brand new "love of their life."  Gosh.  Who could have predicted that?

Wonderful person, huh?  At the 5 month mark, everyone is "wonderful."  LOL  Is this your brother's first serious relationship?

Sadly no it's not! He's just a very romantic person in that he falls in "love" way too quickly

Or, he could be one of the lucky ones and it works. Son has a friend whose girlfriend got pregnant early in the relationship. After the baby was born they decided to live together. They are still together 20 years later. Still not marroed, but comfortable with their decision and relationship.

Yeah the police were called yesterday because they argued. She has a history of abuse so is super paranoid and he has no communication skills, especially not to deal with a person that's been so hurt. They aren't ready for this at all!

No. No it doesn't. I wish he would listen but he probably won't which means it's will probably end with him paying a buttload of child support with eowe visits and no say in important mattwrs

Can't make him do anything. But I WILL be there with an I told you so after an appropriate amount of time (we're Irish twins so very very petty towards each other)

Maybe he can have a lawyer draw up something now that will allow him to be present at the birth and have acess to the baby right afterwards. Visitation to  begin as soon as paternity results are in 2-3 days a week he can take the baby out of BM's home, overnights after 3 months? I don't know what is normal in these kinds of situations- newborns are different than toddlers.

I would try and have it all drafted now and through the court system or at least on a docket for as soon as the baby is born. Especially if she is already calling the cops on him. Also, hate to say this, but it might scare her and she terminates vs. being faced with him forever...

I do t think she would get an abortion but I do think that would put a strain on their already tedious relationship

LOL.

YDS's high school bestfriend has his gf's name tattooed on his bicep at 18, because, you know, soulmates.

He was a loser and she dumped him before long.  Go figure.
