Far Away Enough to Feel Powerless and Close Enough to Feel the Pain
I didn't think I would be posting due to the fact that I can't feel too much drama as a stepmom when I am deployed.
Yeah that was naive.
BM and DH are about to have their final hearing in the custody battle for SS11 and SS9. I thought everything would be okay but she has taken some things the boys said and taped it. I feel sick just thinking about it.
In the context of it all, they were conversations that she had with them as far back as three years ago and you can tell they were coerced but some of it can be misconstrued "Dad has hit me when I pulled the dog's tail," or "TheOtherMom makes me wear SS11's old clothes because she doesn't want to buy me new things and thinks it's a waste of money," ... From an outsider point of view I am pretty sure that sort of thing looks awful.
I want to be the emotional backbone for DH but at the same time I feel so frustrated because I can't do that from the sand box.
SS9 and SS11 have been very sweet since I have been gone. They talk to me on the phone whenever I call, put stuff in the care packages from DH, and are generally helping DH around the house because I am not there to do so.
This really hurts and I don't know how to NOT worry except to vent here and then plunge my head back into my job.
I now understand the mentality of a workaholic. Escapism.

Thank you for serving our country. You are so very much appreciated!!
Does your SO have an attorney for the custody hearing? If not it may be a good idea to at least get a consultaion with one. In most cases recorded conversations like that can NOT be used in court. I do not know the rules of your state but it would certainly be beneficial to look into it.
