Backstory, Chef has a soft spot for a 40 yr old former coworker, "Davey" (names have been changed for anonymity) But he normally goes by David or Dave. Not that this matters, but "Davey" has a wife and kids of his own. He's generally unlikable but will talk a blue streak about his poor finances if prompted. Chef always infantizes those who he is a sucker for, thus the Dave-"y"

Davey has been given several "passes" and freebies with Chef's blessing (the way Chef often works for free expecting the favor to be returned--it never is). I believe its just an ego booster for Chef so he can let others know how "successful" he is. Frankly, if it wasn't for my frugality, we'd be in the poorhouse, but Chef would NEVER give me any credit for it.

"Davey" called to say he's gone out and gotten a loan for a 2024 type of vehicle to allow his side scrapping biz to grow. He's worried he won't be able to afford the payment so he's asking us to have at least $100 a month for his vehicle payment should he not be able to swing the total payment.

To me, this is very presumptuous on Davey's part. Of course if Chef didn't go around bragging how successful to these younger, more impressionable sub contractors so as to get that constant admiration, we wouldn't have this issue. He was already asked by another sub for 7 grand! This other guy has terrible credit, is constantly in danger of being repoed and his wife is sheer dead weight.

At least in that case he said NO. Chef often makes unilateral decisions for praise, probably because he doesn't get constant affirmation from me, which he craves. I recognize his narcissism.

Chef has ZERO business doing this after 2 decades of CS impoverishment! /rant off.

it back with 1000%/daily interest that your Uncle Guido will take it out of both Chef's hide and Daveys.

No matter how successful anyone is, throwing money down the crapper of slimey people is nothin but a bad investement and demonstration of abject and complete stupidity.

Fortunately, my bride is not one to do this. In fact, she is far less likely to help her own family than I am to help her family. Though my help is not in a form any of them have accepted as they find it demeaning and insulting. Tuff shit. My/our money, my/our conditions.

My offers of help require the IL members in question to allocate 100% of their income to an account in my CPA bride's name, she pays their bills, she gives them a very specifically analysed small discretionary allowance, and invests the rest for their retirement. That is it.

Interestingly, when we have we have offered it there is all kinds of gnashing of teeth, offense, and insulted rants. Then.... when we faciliate them working with an investment advisor the advisor demands exactly the same model with 100% of their income direct depositing into their investment operating account, the advisor's practise pays their bills, allocates most of what is left to investments, and gives them a small discretionary allowance. Beyond that any expense they have has to be requested ahead of time from the advisor, who investigates the legitimacy of the request, and only then will give them their own money.

The ILs who have engaged the advisor DW and I have recommended are all happy and thankful. Of course they avoid recognizing that the advisor is doing exactly what DW and I offered to do. The advisor gets a % of their account value. DW and I would do it for no fee.

Make sure that both Davey and Chef know that Uncle Quido the mafia collector does not go lightly on defaulters.

I blame Chef

Because he runs around actually offering financial help to these ne'er do well young hayseed subs and presents himself successful enough to do it. He literally views himself and has them call him "Uncle (insert Chef's first name)." I kid you not!

I have complete control of all the finances and all the business operations. He does all the blue collar work exclusively. Other than small repairs, painting, caulking, lawncare, etc he leaves to me-- basically anything he doesn't want to do as he hates detail work.

I also do all the choosing of the tenants, the bookkeeping, all the record keeping, and taxes for both the HVAC business and the rentals.

On paper, he is my dependent and makes nothing. I also have a pension and a small survivors Social Security benefit from my second husband which I will convert to my social security at age 67 ( it will more than double based on my work record alone.)

In public ( in front of the subs) he jokes that I am "the boss." AKA good cop-bad cop and his pretense of trying to make our arrangement appear egalitarian.

The whole thing is his narcissistic supply.
