Barf!!!
As I was playing "Christmas Time Is Here" by Vince Guaraldi on piano (youtube) an ad popped up for Pandora of a dad who was buying his grown daughter what looked like an engagement ring from Pandora; then it showed the open cabin of an airliner. Just made me cringe. Maybe it's just me? I don't get it! My father NEVER bought me ANY jewelry. That was considered something done by lovers.
Chef bought the Animal Torturer a heart locket. She would never wear it as she was already PASed out beyond belief at age eight. I ended up putting it into a pile of old jewelry I have.

My parents bought me jewelry,
My parents bought me jewelry, but it was usually my birthstone and very "daughter" appropriate. Birthstone ring, birthstone earrings, a gold cross for Confirmation, a gold necklace and earrings when I graduated HS.
I wonder if anyone makes Poop emoji lockets? *diablo*
Mine did the same. My
Mine did the same. My birthstone is a diamond but I had a little baby diamond ring that my parents got me when my adoption was finalized. I had a couple of necklaces and little stud earrings but nothing flashy or big. Probably nothing over $100 even.
That commercial reminds me of the ones where new step-dad-to-be asks the kid for permission to marry the mom. BARF!
DH once wanted to buy SD

Uh yeah, that's a weird route to choose for a commercial.
I always cringe now at anything over the top "daddy's girl." I think I always have, but now it's really *bad*
Even moreso if I have to witness it with DH there
Michael Bolton sang that
Michael Bolton sang that absolutely vomitous song Daddy's Little Girl. Couldn't flip stations fast enough!
My dad bought me a nice gold
My dad bought me a nice gold chain when I was 16? I still have it and wear it occasionally. He bought me nice earrings once too, gold/pearl but those fell apart eventually.
But it was in no way romantic or more meaningful than a nice gift.
In the commercial
the voice of the woman was no way 16 yrs old. Sounded more like 30 something.
Sweet 16 birthstone ring
My mom gifted me with an Opal ring for my 16th birthday... the only jewelry I ever received from family until 1.5 years ago, when my sister-in-law giving me a necklace with a dog paw charm engraved with the name of my German Shepherd who I'd just put down at nearly 14 years old. My oldest cousin wanted to give me some of her mom's/my aunt's jewelry collection but I suggested she give it to the cousins who actually knew my aunt, as I grew up in California with hippy parents that never visited their family from the midwest & have no memories of that aunt.
