Looks Like Dominatrix Will Be Repeating the 10th Grade. . .
Which is HIGHLY unusual because she's been passed up a notch every year. She's in special ed classes as well for her "learning disability" which I call L.O.B. (lack of belt) but bombs out in those as well.
She took a photo of her new course assignments and all the courses listed say 9/10th grade. She's going to be 17 in a couple of months and has NEVER repeated a grade. Looks like she's given up on Spanish classes as well--probably a good idea considering she gets crater fail grades in English her first language.
Probably should have WAAAAAAY back when but the Girhippo stood up out of her chair and sobbed in front of Chef and I who DARED suggest she be held back: "WHAT ABOUT HER FRIENDS????!!! "
Of course the CO is written as: "CS shall continue until child reaches the age of 21 or the completion of four academic years of college education during the years immediately following the child's graduation from high school, unless interrupted for good cause, whichever shall come LAST."
The Gir has probably figured out that Dom will never make it through college so why not extend HS as long as humanly possible considering the way the CO is written. She saw that she got cut off CS for Pumpkinhead (OSS stb 19) because he barely squeaked by HS and then immediately moved out of the Gir's household.
So now she's "wisened up" Suddenly Dom's "friends" (basically bullying victims) are no longer important in the grand scheme of things (insert eyeroll)

Wait, she is 17 and in the 10th grade??
I got nothing.
She supposedly finished the
She supposedly finished the 10th grade and was supposed to be pity passed up to 11th so she must have crater failed snacks and drinks, errr I mean "summer school" this year.
Most likely summer school was skipped entirely due to extended vacations with the Gir clan and a two week stint at an ice cream shop.
The skids have gone to summer school as follows:
Pumpkinhead (stb 19) every year since the third grade (now just floating around smoking doobs w/drivers license revoked and hoping to become a big rock star)
Dominatrix (stb 17) every year since the first grade
Prince Hygiene (12.5) every year since the first grade
I can see 17 in the 11th
I can see 17 in the 11th grade, but in the 10th?
I am so glad I lived where kids can start kindergarten as long as they are 5 by December 1.
I have a friend who lives in a district where they test all 4 year olds. They place them in either junior kindergarten or kindergarten. Her son was placed in Junior Kindergarten. He was 5. The progression there is Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten, Junior First Grade, First Grade. Second grade is where Junior stops.
So, my friend's kid was 5 in JK. 6 in Kindergarten. 7 in Junior First and 8 in First grade. Meanwhile, their next door neighbor, a kid my friend's kid played with from the day they could walk, was placed in the regular progression. He was 5 in Kindergarten, 6 in First and 7 in Second. My friend's kid was 16 in 9th grade. It's too much, in my opinon.
Generations of kids were sent to school as long as they were 5 by December and did just fine.
I have twin August babies. It never even occurred to me to hold them back.
Actually, one of them did
Actually, one of them did struggle mightily with severe ADHD. That would've happened regardless of what time of the year he turned five. It was quite helpful to have him compare himself to his same age peers that were in his same grade, as opposed to comparing him to his younger friends.
It was actually quite helpful with his emotional development.
Usually school will do
Usually school will do everything they possibly can to move kids in special ends up, means repeating test multiple times, modified testes (make it easier), lower passing score 65-77...etct unless parents push to hold them back. I mean parents really have to push, you have to sit thru 3-5 meetings and each meeting is about 3-4 hrs long with bunch of teachers/principal/district clerk, their side and you might have to bring your attorney, special ed advocate along to show/argue why your child need to hold back, otherwise school will keep passing them along and move on. She must screw up pretty bad for them not be able to move her to next level. Headache!!!!

I am glad that I went to
I am glad that I went to school in a country where kids automatically go from one grade to the next and it is highly unusual for a child to repeat a year. It sounds like a lot of added stress and social stigma for a child that either needs more support or is likely to fail anyway.
I remember talking to my
I remember talking to my friend when her child was 16 and in the ninth grade. He had a hard time socializing, because he was much more mature than his 14 and 15-year-old classmates.
It was very difficult for him. Also, in that particular state, the age of consent was 16. Nobody in the ninth or 10th grade would let their daughters go on dates with him. The same thing happened when he was 19 turning 20 in his senior year of high school. It reared its ugly head yet again when he was a 20-year-old freshman in college.
When wr lived in NC,the cut
When wr lived in NC,the cut off date was October 16. My due date was the 13, son was born on the 5.
Red shirting kids (mostly boys) was a big deal there. Most parents said they didn't want their kids to be the youngest in the class. I think the real goal was to have the biggest kid on the football field when they got to high school.
I lived in Raleigh for 8
I lived in Raleigh for 8 years after college. My sister, son's dad and I are St. Augustine's College (now University) Alumni
I have no idea what the cut
I have no idea what the cut off was in MA in 1981-82, but I was one of the oldest in my class. THEN, due to some health issues my freshman year of high school, I had to repeat the grade. I turned 15 in January of my freshman year. That made me 17 in the 10th grade.
Sometimes it happens.
Believe me, she was in
Believe me, she was in special ed because the Girhippo doctor shopped until she found one that would say she's "learning disabled-other." Smoke screen for shoddy parenting. After all, parenting is HARD WORK and riding your kid's behind with expectations is truly grueling. The Gir is FAR too lazy for that. Hell she plagiarized her OWN school papers when she was in HS and drunken sorority "college."
Dominatrix took the test SEVERAL times and the results kept coming back that she was NOT learning disabled. Then it seems strange that she was suddenly labeled "learning disabled" shortly thereafter. No doubt you've heard of kids being coached to be "dumb" on these tests so that they can qualify for SSI/SSD and get that bonus monthly.
The problem with all three of Chef's kids is that there were never any expectations to act HUMAN never mind do homework/classwork. They were and still are as feral as they come.
I'm pretty sure we live in
I'm pretty sure we live in the same state and I know in my district that they do not retain HS students. They move to the next grade, but if they "failed" the previous grade they have to re-take those classes in addition to the next grade level. So if Dom "failed" 10 grade, she will be considered an 11th grader, with an 11th grade class schedule but will also have to take the 10th grade classes she failed again. This means no study halls.. just a chock full schedule. The bottom line is they have to have 23 credits to graduate. If she's special ed? She can legally attend high school until she is 21 to get those credits.
I had a girl in my program last year, who was a Senior taking FOUR gym classes... because she failed gym in 9th grade, 10th grade and 11th grade. If she did not pass all four of those gym classes, she would not graduate. Can you imagine not graduating because you were too lazy to go to gym???
Hmm I'll have to check that
Hmm I'll have to check that photo again. I do believe I saw no study halls on it. A couple of the teachers were different on it. It said "Global Studies 9/10" but didn't show the top part (where it conveniently cut off Chef's name but showed Battleaxe Gallatica as GBM) That would have shown that she was considered an 11th grader.
UPDATE: I see two study halls :? In other news, Prince Hygiene's schedule shows he's going into 7th grade after successfully completing snacks and socialization, errr I mean "summer school."
How "special ed" is she? Are
How "special ed" is she? Are we talking like a 15:1:1 placement or are we talking general ed classes with special ed accommodations? (extra time for tests, quiet place for tests etc)
She gets a special "note
She gets a special "note taker" to take notes for her in class and a special "test reader" to read test questions for her. Funny thing though. She can communicate EXTREMELY well on FB aside from spelling errors here and there.
