Shared Parenting Report Card (U.S.)
Guess which major state ranked an "F" in Shared Parenting? Comes as no surprise to those who live there:

LOL, there were literally NO
LOL, there were literally NO POSITIVES for New York! Glad to see my perception of unfairness is not just me being bitter.
Too bad nothing will come out of it.
Yeah It's Quite the Cash Cow for the "System"
in NY. What is not documented here is that downstate is "more enlightened" than upstate when it comes to joint custody and that was all factored in. You can IMAGINE how anti-father UPSTATE NY is!!! And Mr. Neutral thinks his bruiser/biker looking son is going to win custody from his Instagram stbx BM!!
Insert Massive Eyeroll!!!
Not shocked to see Jersey
Not shocked to see Jersey with a D. Probably D-
I feel this is slightly
I feel this is slightly disingenuous.
My state ranked mediocre because our laws allow for joint custody and 50/50 split. But the actual practice of that? Especially if people don't co-parent? Yeah. Mom wins 90% of the time unless she really, REALLY jumps off the deep end. Like, kids in mortal danger more than once.
If Anything
it probably puts more of a rosey spin on custody than it is in real life by simply stating that, yes the laws "allow" shared parenting. That doesn't mean that if you get a judge who is in real life a GUBM herself, you're gonna get a fair shake as a father.
This was my thought exactly
This was my thought exactly they're not going off of actual outcomes but off of how the law is worded.
I checked different states that I've lived in it if curiosity and for Ohio they have the fact that they have a task force working and taking suggestions to improve the way things are handled and a negative is that they don't follow most of the recommendations from the real force. That made me LOL.
Got a D. No surprise... Also
Got a D. No surprise... Also the positives sounded more like negatives on that one... LMAO
My state got a nice wonderful
My state got a nice wonderful D. Basicly it CAN do shared things but nothing saying it SHOULD or WOULD consider shared first.
I was happily surprised that
I was happily surprised that Louisiana (where I used to live) got a B-. A male friend divorced his cheating ex wife when their daughter was almost 2. He's had 50/50 custody and loves it. He also never had to pay alimony because she cheated. A win/win.
Not shocking CA got a D, it
Not shocking CA got a D, it should be closer to an F in my opinion
I am honestly surprised that
I am honestly surprised that my state got a D. I know this is from 5 years ago but I know that my state is almost an automatic 50/50 unless there is good reason. If it isn't 50/50 (the only reason I have heard lately that it isn't is due to the proximity of where the parents live in relation to school zones) the "non-primary" parent gets large amounts of visitation ordered. I have heard sitting in court more than once custody getting flipped over BM's not sharing report cards or medical info or moving and not telling the father. My ex and I were only ever there for child support reductions (they make you sit in the court room for that here), but I was always surprised at how fast it would happen.
Kansas getting a C+ -- that is a joke!
I really don't think my state
I really don't think my state deserves the B it was given. Although some legislative changes occurred in 2012, they don't seem to have had much of an impact on judges' decisions. We still have language in our laws that specifically denies equal physical custody.
I think MN deserves a C at best.
It's interesting that many of
It's interesting that many of the more politically liberal states got the worst grades.
Because these laws were
Because these laws were written half a century ago when divorce was much more rare and men were only expected to finance their kids, not actually raise them. And the lawyer lobby fights against any changes under the guise of "helping women and children."
Half a century ago, child
Half a century ago, child support stopped at 18. Now it's evolved to 21 in a few states. Something has changed.
States figured out a way to
States figured out a way to make money off CS. Now they have an incentive to keep that income flowing.
Title IV of the Social Security Act
revised by the Clintons gives the local CSEUs federal monies for highest amounts of CS ordered and collected.
IOW no incentive for a downward mod or to retroactive an overpayment to the (98% of all cases) BM
Well that AND the world has
Well that AND the world has evolved to believe that if the woman doesn't get the upper end on everything, then you're somehow sexist. It's turned into this weird superiority thing instead of an equality thing. Especially in family court settings. Hence why BMs can get away with murder, and BFs basically can't breathe or get a penny behind without getting some kind of consequence.
We forget most dads WANT to be involved now and drag our feet and balk at that reality because "women's rights" and a fear of being called sexist.
Getting off my high horse now. LOL
It's called SPECIAL rights
and not EQUAL rights. People are getting sick of all the special snowflake rights that are going around these days.
Well I really hate all the
Well I really hate all the snowflake rights. Personally I think throw around equal opporunity and let people WORK for it. But I'm grumpy.
Not Grumpy
just realistic; something that hasn't been taught in the last, oh, 40 years or so.
