Need some kitty love for Sheba :-(

WalkOnBy's picture

Tuff knows about this, but nobody else does.

Sheba has not been well. She is throwing up a lot and she is still having some urinating outside the litter box issues.

Monday night, when I got home from work, she just didn't look right. Her eyes were kinda odd, her ears were really hot and pinned back and she was crying.

I took her to the vet who did a diabetes test (negative) and also a kidney and liver panel. I will get the results of those today.

When I went to get her out of her carrier, I saw that she had peed all over her carrier and herself. She looked so embarrassed, the poor little pumpkin. The vet tech took her carrier (to get the urine for a sample) and Sheba and got them both cleaned up. There was blood in Sheba's urine Sad

I had her there about two months ago for the litter box issue and was told at that time that her kidney function was starting to decrease. The vet ruled out diabetes and put her on some antibiotics to see if that helps her. She was concerned that in two months' time, Sheba went from 6.8 lbs to 5.9. She's always been a small cat, but the weight loss makes me more than a little nervous.

I will be LOST when it's her time. I have had her for over 14 years and she has been with me through raising my kids, my abusive relationship (she used to pee on his clothes-lol) and my exit from that relationship. She has kept me going and kept me company during some of the darkest days of my life...

Anyway - if you and your special kitty/doggie friends could keep Sheba in your prayers, I would really appreciate it.

Sad Prayers...

My cat Lilly will turn 16 in Feb. 2 years ago she got really sick. They said she had kidney failure and a serious UTI- with the blood in her urine. At that time I thought for sure she would die soon. I would wake up in the middle of the night and put my hand on her and make sure she was still breathing. I was so scared I was going to come home and she was going to be dead. Well here she is 2 years later and still kicking it.

Hopefully Sheba will start feeling better soon and it's something that can be treated. They treated Lilly for the UTI and that seemed to help. I also got her blood work done and the vet said for her age, it was really good so that made me feel better.

I spend A LOT of time thinking about when Lilly passes. I have had her for 14 years. Like you, she's been there for me... I've had her longer then BS. LOL. I know I am going to be a mess. I have been mentally preparing myself for when that time comes. Maybe you should start thinking about it. As morbid as it sounds. But mentally prepare yourself in a way.

With my cat Ernie being sick with cancer and Lilly being so old I am praying that they both don't die around the same time Sad

HUGS to you and Sheba.

Good advice preparing for the loss. At the clinic I worked at years ago we actually had a counselor for fur baby parents, I think she mostly specialized in grief counseling but found her niche with pet loss. That might be something you could find in your area Walk.

Sheba just turned 17 - she's an old lady...

I always tell DH that I have had her longer than I have had him Smile

I have been preparing myself mentally for a while now. I know it's going to happen, but like you, I don't want to come home one day and find her dead.

I have told my boss (a crazy cat lady herself) and DH that I will be taking time off work when Sheba goes across the bridge. They both understand...

I'm not a cat person, (they are just so damn moody)but I love your Sheba stories

My Gwendolynne is approaching 17, and is now puking at least 4-5 times per week - sometimes a few times a day, sometimes not at all for a few days. Sometimes a lot, sometimes almost nothing. No rhyme nor reason. All other behaviour is normal, except less affectionate but that may be due to the forced cuddles from DDstb3. We've changed foods once and we're trying to give her more affection but she's clearly getting skinnier and sometimes she doesn't land where she planned when jumping.

It'll be so hard. I lost Molly when she was 10 to a heart 'event', and Hank and Alice (the terrible twins) when they were 17, a few months apart. That was 8 and 6 years ago, respectively. I still miss them all. Sometimes I look at videos and find myself laughing and crying.

WalkOnBy's picture

Yeah - we have the puking, too. Totally random, no rhyme or reason. Sheba has the jumping issues, too. she won't jump up on the counter anymore, but rather she'll go from the floor to a chair to the counter.

In my bathroom, she will sit on the floor by the sink and wait for me to pick her up so she can have some water Smile

Lilly has been puking too. But she is pretty polite about it for the most part and will do it in her litter box. Less mess to clean. LOL!

WalkOnBy's picture

that's very polite.

Sheba goes back and forth between the carpet upstairs and the hardwood downstairs.

IKR? Gwennie chooses the main hallway, usually in front of the door to the toilet...

WalkOnBy's picture

Sheba's preferred barfing spot is the carpet under my husband's desk. She LOVES to be near him!!

Lately, she's been puking on her blanket, though Sad

Well I still have 2 other cats that puke wherever. Especially on the new chair I bought. Thankfully I bought a warranty with it and Stanley Steemer has to come out whenever I request it and clean the chair.

Lilly just recently started puking in her litter box. Kind of odd but I'm not complaining.

I'm so sorry WoB. I'll pray Sheba gets better. I know how you feel right now.

We lost my cat Izzy last week. She lived with my parents because she and my dad bonded while I lived with them, and DH hates cats. She was 19, in kidney failure, lost most of her teeth, and dropped 10 lbs in the last year. She'd been hanging on pretty well, until my parents toilet busted and flooded 2 floors. She couldn't deal with the stress of the construction. We tried sending her to my grandma's quieter house but she gave up on eating. We couldn't even get her to eat tuna. My mom decided it was kinder to let her go than let her stress/starve herself.

Sad Sad Sad Hugs to you for the loss of Izzy.

As hard as it will be for me, I will let her go when it's time. There is no way I could ever let her suffer, not even for one second.

I will be there at the end - reminding her that she was the best kitty girl in the world Sad

My dog had similar symptoms and ended up having a kidney stone. It cost 400.00 to remove but it was worth it. Did they check your kitty for kidney stones?

Hugs and prayers for Sheba. Our furbabies love us unconditionally and give a comfort that our humans just can't. After almost killing the wiener last weekend all I could think of when I was pouring the peroxide down her throat was how would i live with myself and how would I tell BS9 that Wiener died because mom moved the advent house.

We need them and when they are gone it leaves a huge hole in our hearts.

WalkOnBy's picture

she's always been against clothes on the floor. When my kids were little, they learned quickly that if they left stuff on the floor, she would pee on them. They swore up and down that I trained her to do that, but I didn't - lol!

It was sad to read this.
Hoping for a good outcome for you and Sheba.

Have they checked the thyroid ? Our little cat was puking a lot and losing weight. She felt like a bag of hair and bones. she is on thyroid meds now and finally found food that has put some weight back on her.
We had two cats and the fat cat needed a weight maintenance food. So we were feeding ti to both cats. It was hair all formula and maintain healthy weight. When the fat cat passed on mI did not realize for a while that the food was wrong for the other cat.

You may have to try some different foods. The treats make our cat puke. So no treats for her.

Good wishes.

Sheba will be fine WOB - she's an old lady lol and peeing herself laughing at you and skids...

She is 14 you know, that's rather old for a cat, but they can go till 18 - so she still has some spunk in her, maybe it's just something small... or something she ate,... but I have this feeling that Queen Sheba wants some TLC and she will be just fine

Acratopotes's picture

well she might just go for 21...... so relax....

Sheba wants some TLC, and she's in shock cause ASS is not there anymore... she can relax now fully... it's just that BV that's still a small irritation Wink

Tuff Noogies's picture

WOB - so what were the results of the kidney/liver tests?

i'm so worried about your li'l gurl....
